All animals will die at some stage. If their life up to that point was in a caring and respectful environment, and they are humanely killed, what's the problem?

We regularly sent our cattle to the abattoir, and it didn't stop them being happy cows that got hugs and shoulder scratches...

What exactly does "humanely killed" mean? Is there a method of being killed against your will that you'd be up for?

It means a swift, unexpected death. No discomfort involved.

Animals killed for meat die as adolescents. This is dispicable.

Exactly. One can make an extreme example and ask how they would feel about someone lovingly slaughtering their husband/wife and children.
