On Windows, it's probably a combination of multiple tools. Some examples:

* For searching and browsing, Listary Pro is pretty good.

* For text expansion, AutoHotKey

* Automating, maybe AutoHotKey again.

* Clipboard stuff - Ditto, Clip X
