If you haven't thought about these things yet, you don't have the right friends (at work), or haven't thought enough about your job, the company, the ecosystem, how businesses and the economy at large work, and your place in it all. It's totally fine not to think about those things, if you choose, but at least make sure it's a conscious choice.
Not trying to sound condescending, not thinking about those things is a natural state that everyone has been in -- just trying to help illuminate for those that "don't know what they don't know" -- you may see this and think "so what, I'm happy with my current pay and lifestyle, it's fine" and that's totally fine! I'm just trying to reach those who may not even know these things are in play.
All that said, being a programmer in this day and age is one of possibly the freest, most open, most rewarding, and well paying jobs.
