I haven't used Firebug in decades, the native tools are more than enough (and way better presented than Chrome imo). If it's not enough there is Firefox Developer Edition[1].

But not talking about development. How can you use a browser that does not allow for tabs to be displayed on the side? Tree Style Tab[2] on Firefox makes it the best browser for me.

Firebug or the Firefox Developer Tools? The built-in DevTools have been pretty great for a while now.

Does Firebug has anything over the built-in FF dev tools at this point?

The built-in dev tools have improved drastically in the latest versions of Firefox and that's also why [Firebug.next](https://getfirebug.com/downloads) (aka Firebug 3) isn't a standalone panel any more, but is integrated with and built upon the native dev tools.
