It's surprising that people on HackerNews don't seem to understand the basics of how the Internet works.

No its not. Go interview developers sometime.

I have had that conversation with developers, where I literally was pointing them at the Wikipedia article and quoting bits back at them. Fun times.[citation needed]

This is all too true. I had people in my 300 level Networking who even after that class didn't know how DNS servers worked (at a high level).

There are definitely less skilled developers around, but in my experience they also don't read (or even write) on HN.

dude. the guy owns slow.com, it's his traffic. i'm talking about OWNERSHIP, not the http protocol. please read the original post about 'stealing' traffic.

he owns the domain name, he gets to do what he wants with it. _that's how dns works_.

i don't know why the hell redirects even got brought up.

this entire thread is pedants making shit up so they can be pedantic while ignoring the actual conversation.

There are people from all skill levels on this site.

uh, okay. the "dn" in "dns" means "domain name", which according to my understanding of the basics of the internet works, is what fast.com and slow.com are.

I am not sure you two are idiots or just trolling. I am referring to the fact that the guy is trying to steal traffic.

Steal traffic from whom?
