The feature it's pretty convenient, but knowing that they don't provide proper encryption and that the US government and/or Dropbox employees can access to my data it's a no-go. Also I don't like to pay for Condoleezza Rice salary. http://www.drop-dropbox.com/

The US government can get into your home, do you refuse to live anywhere because of that?

Not the OP. That feels like hyperbole: there are actual legal restrictions on "getting in to your home". When uploading data to a 3rd party the protections are much more limited.

Both require warrants. Are you referring to things like FISA courts and NSA wiretapping, or more mundane things like Dropbox volunteering your data?

In the latter case, at least, it feels similar to your landlord letting the cops into your apartment.

It is true that sometimes they require warrants. Also, Dropbox probably just wants access to my data to change my password in case I forget it. But technology can help me to avoid trusting them by encrypting everything in my end. Both the government and Dropbox employees are humans, and humans sometimes don't behave well. I'm willing to miss some features to get more privacy.

I live in Argentina.
