I know that adoption is still low, but I do not know why, can you provide me more perspective?

My knowledge is based mostly on the diva cup ads that pop up here.

I imagine it's pretty damn gross, but I'm a dude and the process is pretty damn gross to me.

I'm a menstrual cup user. It's not gross cause you're gonna be dealing with those body fluids one way or another.

It's not gross, if anything it's much less messy than pads. Menstrual cups are awesome.
