The 'internet of things' just leaves people that aren't tech savvy vulnerable.

Many are basically just servers plugged directly into the Internet with no security updates.

Agreed. It does seem to be incumbent on IoT makers/service providers/etc. to make security a core part of their product, though.

This is why liability is important. If a product causes problems when "used normally", then the manufacturer is liable for the damage it causes.

Yes, this will make R&D much slower and more expensive. That's the goal.
