Out of curiosity can one not order a regular cab by phone to come and pick you up at a destination and the dispatcher already knows the destination?

The cheap reliable ones used to be focused on specific ethnic groups. Now they have green cabs that work the boroughs and take calls as well.
Going to have to disagree with that. Almost all car services I've used in the city have been fine, and much cheaper for things like airport travel than a yellow cab.
Their location is few blocks away from us, so you need to do research to make sure that the car service is around you.
Car service cabs are plentiful and cheap in my area. Many of the drivers directly communicate with you by phone and have GPS.
