zoklet-enjoyer··on Parental controls aren't for parents
I had a cell phone before my parents. Paid cash for a TracFone when I was 16 or 17 and used that to sell weed. Where there's a will, there's a way.
zoklet-enjoyer··on 50% of U.S. vinyl buyers don't own a record player
I still have a working copy of AC/DC's Back in Black from 1996. I have older tapes that work fine too, but not sure how much they've been played since they're mostly from thrift stores.

MD will always be the coolest format
zoklet-enjoyer··on Finland detains ship and its crew after critical undersea cable damaged
Executing people for cutting cables is extreme and I'm sure illegal in any country worth living in

What do you mean by eliminate?
zoklet-enjoyer··on So I started cloning the Wii U gamepad [video]
Oh wow. I never played my Wii U without the gamepad, so I didn't know this. Makes sense that the gamepads are still as expensive as they are.

Yeah, I'm just going to skip that show entirely.
zoklet-enjoyer··on List of domains censored by German ISPs
This reminds me of a screenshot I saw where someone told chatgpt they stumbled upon a piracy website and wanted a list of other websites to avoid hahaha
zoklet-enjoyer··on We invited a man into our home at Christmas and he stayed with us for 45 years
I would like a vacuum as gift. The one I currently have isn't very good. Not sure what her problem was.
zoklet-enjoyer··on Fabrication Techniques Using Myco-Materials
Mycelium is probably much cheaper than fruiting bodies.
zoklet-enjoyer··on Spotify reportedly investigating Anna's Archive's scraping of their library
I was looking for a song recently and can't find it. The artist was banned from YouTube and looks like they took their album off Spotify. An archive like this is good for preserving stuff from smaller artists like that
zoklet-enjoyer··on Show HN: Books mentioned on Hacker News in 2025
Mind Games at number 2? I got that book years ago and was so disappointed I still think about it sometimes.

This is hilarious and shows that I share too much personal info on here
zoklet-enjoyer··on Humankind's 10 million year love affair with booze might end
>GABA, which is part of the brain’s natural calming system, is strongly affected by alcohol. Scientists think this is the mechanism by which drinking can reduce stress and anxiety. GABA Labs, a firm based near London, is trying to develop a flavourless substance called Alcarelle that has a similar effect. Trials to show that it is safe could take years. But if they are successful, the firm will be able to market Alcarelle to drinks makers as a way to create soft drinks that mimic the buzzy feeling of booze, with none of the downside.

We already have GBL. It's semi-legal and feels like a long lasting ethanol. I tried it a couple times and thought it was boring. But yeah, we have plenty of alcohol alternatives already. Etizolam seltzers could be a thing.

zoklet-enjoyer··on Humankind's 10 million year love affair with booze might end
Yeah so basically the same thing as alcohol
zoklet-enjoyer··on Humankind's 10 million year love affair with booze might end
We already have GBL
zoklet-enjoyer··on Backing up Spotify
Wow. Now I just need some hard drives and a way to download that without my ISP doing something about it. That's amazing.
zoklet-enjoyer··on Over 40% of deceased drivers in vehicle crashes test positive for THC: Study
I'm mostly talking about white college students, though I can think of one instance of a Nepali colleague's grandma hitting sometime in our parking lot and almost hitting my car in another incident.
zoklet-enjoyer··on Over 40% of deceased drivers in vehicle crashes test positive for THC: Study
Oh. That's completely different and frightening whereas what I see isn't too dangerous and is more comical

I drove high a few times when I was younger and I had to set my cruise control to 25mph to make sure I was going fast enough haha never again. I just use before bed now or occasionally during the day if I know I won't have to drive anywhere.
zoklet-enjoyer··on Over 40% of deceased drivers in vehicle crashes test positive for THC: Study
Come to Fargo. I see it multiple times a year. Usually right after a new semester starts and the farm kids don't know about one ways haha
zoklet-enjoyer··on At least $9B billed across 14 Medicaid services in Minnesota may be fraudulent
Pretty average size population for a US state.
zoklet-enjoyer··on TikTok Deal Is the Shittiest Possible Outcome, Making Everything Worse
I was into the whole research chemical thing from maybe 2005 to 2011. People on message boards were doing like $30k+ group buys to get Chinese labs to synthesize new stuff. It was a really interesting time with a lot of money to be made and new chemicals to experience. I started hearing horror stories about people ODing on fentanyl and fentanyl analogues in 2011ish from middle men mixing up orders and mislabeling chemicals. That sketched me out enough that I didn't want anything to do with it anymore. It was very easy to buy fentanyl straight from Chinese labs until at least 2013 but maybe even as late as 2015 or 16. Fentanyl was legal in China until US pressure to ban it and that's when they started sending precursors to Mexico.
zoklet-enjoyer··on TikTok Deal Is the Shittiest Possible Outcome, Making Everything Worse
I've been saying since at least 2013 that fentanyl is a chemical attack against the US by China. I've been repeatedly downvoted for that statement.
zoklet-enjoyer··on How China built its ‘Manhattan Project’ to rival the West in AI chips
When I hear Manhattan Project, I don't think about the outcome. I think about the massive amount of effort for a singular goal that might not even be possible.

zoklet-enjoyer··on Israel used Palantir technologies in pager attack in Lebanon
The US and Israel do the equivalent of that and have been for years. An assassination is an assassination. The weapon makes little difference.
zoklet-enjoyer··on Modern Walkmans
From what I've heard, that seems to be the case. I suppose that's part of why legit Walkmans are going for so much now. I love cassettes and it would be cool to have a good portable tape player again, but it really can't compete with my phone. Unless we go back to carrying around all the individual things a phone can do. It's tempting but just not as convenient.

I still play around with tapes at home. I have a modded player with speed controls, a couple of decent tape decks, and a 4 track recorder. I have a couple of loop tapes to play around with too. But yeah, as a portable music format, not sure I want to go back to that.
