zmanji··on Judge: Marine who criticized Obama on Facebook can be dismissed
I think that this is fairly reasonable. When joining the military you agree to abide a very different set of laws and rules. I think that it is fair to demand that military personnel respect their Commander in Chief.
zmanji··on Assembler for DCPU16 written in C++
Not even close. By default there is no license at all.
zmanji··on Notch's next game is an MMO
Out of curiosity what is classified as "Quake in Space" and "WoW in Space" ?
zmanji··on Secret History of OpenStack, the Free Cloud Software That’s Changing Everything
“Whenever I would talk in Washington about this cloud technology enabling data centers to run without people, this was interpreted as jobs going away,” Kemp says. “There was a serious political challenge to the project…and I was called before the NASA administrator — of the whole agency — to explain it.”

This is disturbing to say the least.

zmanji··on Linux 3.3 released
Does this mean that the entire Android userland will run on a vanilla 3.3 kernel?
zmanji··on LaTeX3 versus LuaTeX: which is the future? Statements by LaTeX3 team members.
Tangentially related: How does one write 'modern' LaTeX today? What packages/tools do people use to ensure their documents work properly?
zmanji··on Xcode, GCC, and Homebrew
Why is it not possible to compile gcc with llvm-gcc? The last time I checked llvm-gcc compiles C and C++ with most GNU extensions.
zmanji··on Why you file 83(b) elections promptly
This is outrageous, I can't believe that Zuckerburg did not try any other action after the window closed to prevent paying so much tax.
zmanji··on GUM: A better CLI for Git
Is it possible for all of these to be implemented as git command aliases?
zmanji··on SPJ: Escape From the Ivory Tower, Haskell From 1990 to 2011
This is an excellent talk. The presenter has tremendous energy.
zmanji··on Mega-man: The fast, fabulous, and fraudulent life of Kim Dotcom
This honestly looks like the plot of a movie.
zmanji··on When She Codes, The Revolution’s Coming
The first event was learning Ruby. See: http://ladieslearningcode.com/events/
zmanji··on The cleanest vimrc you'll ever see
How did you get your operating system to do that?
zmanji··on Why I'm a Pirate
That is the textbook definition of anything related to Intellectual Property. The State is supposed to grant a time limited monopoly and in exchange the protected item will return to the public once it is finished.
zmanji··on Launching the Kindle Fire was a mistake
I'm not going to purchase a device because the software might improve in the future. I'm going to purchase a device that has functional software from day 1. Otherwise every day that I have to use the terrible software until it is improved is another cost that I have to pay.
zmanji··on Golden Ratio for Readable Web Typography
I really wish this was baked into some SASS framework so I could get this for free.
zmanji··on BlackBerry 10 is a failure that won’t be able to compete, company source says
Can anyone shed some light on how this can happen? Don't managers use the product and ensure that it is better than the previous versions? How can they release Playbook OS 2.0 without BBM, email, etc?
zmanji··on Dear Internet: It's no Longer OK Not to Know How Congress Works
If money influencing Congress is a problem then why should they contribute to it?
zmanji··on N. Korean leader Kim Jong Il dies
I wonder if his son's violent statements toward SK will turn into violent actions.
zmanji··on N. Korean leader Kim Jong Il dies
pg places a black bar on top of the orange bar when some one significant dies.
zmanji··on Why Is the NFL Afraid of Technology?
Did anyone care about the health of the gladiators?
zmanji··on Why Spotify can never be profitable: The secret demands of record labels
If labels have copyright over the song they have a legal monopoly over reproduction of the song (minus fair use). The Internet alone cannot destroy this type of monopoly for legal services.
zmanji··on Waving Our Tentacles -- A demo of Tentacles, a Github API library
After browsing the source, I am amazed at how wonderfully simple it is. Clojure really made writing this simple.
zmanji··on Nyan cat in the terminal
I have the solarized color scheme on iTerm 2 and I think it looks terrible. It doesn't look as bright and colorful as the screenshots in the github repo or the actual nyan cat.
zmanji··on Show HN: elegant open-source pastebin server (node.js & redis)
The use of the solarized colorscheme is wonderful.
zmanji··on Introducing (Unofficial) GitHub Buttons
I really wish github would develop a web intents api like Twitter. Then one can watch repos and follow other users much like the follow bottons for twitter.
zmanji··on GitHub forking has one big flaw
HN does have sub-domain support if the link is posterous or a few other sites. I don't know why it is not enabled for all links though.
zmanji··on How GitHub uses GitHub to build GitHub (video)

zmanji··on Git workflow for addons.mozilla.org

What do you do when feature work is long standing and worked on by multiple people?
In this case there should be a topic branch for the big feature and all development comes off that branch. You can simply replace master with the topic branch and topic branch with your personal branch and this model will work.
zmanji··on Canada's Telecom Market is Rigged, says Wind Mobile backer Naguib Sawiris
Right now in Canada I am paying high rates for antiquated service. There is still long distance, I have to pay extra for voicemail + caller id, etc.

I agree that government sponsored monopolies probably could not keep up with the pace of innovation. However in industries where natural monopolies occur, I think they are the better solution then private enterprise.

In Canada, it used to be that receiving text messages was free. However, one of the three carriers decided to charge for incoming texts. Sure enough, in less than a year, the other two carriers followed and also charged for incoming texts. I have a strong feeling to say that sort of behavior would not occur if there was a government sponsored monopoly.

The obvious solution is better regulation, but I don't think anyone has found a solution to regulatory capture yet so I'm not banking on anything there.
