zippzom··on Even when told not to, Windows 10 doesn't stop talking to Microsoft
I've read somewhere that it ignores the hosts file for its microsoft communication.
zippzom··on G is for Google
Doesn't this completely change what you are buying when you buy GOOGL shares?

It used to be you were investing in a search/ad company that owned a lot of other stuff. Now you are investing in a company that owns the leading search/ad company.

The difference is obviously academic but I think it will make a difference in how the shares are traded. Perception drives the market after all.

zippzom··on NYC's Taxi and Limousine Commission Trip Record Data for 2014-2015
Can you explain why there is a line going to the airport? Shouldn't the airport be more of an island of light (since I imagine most people aren't getting picked up / dropped off a half mile from the airport)?

Also did you overlay it onto a map? How did you get the angled effect if it's just a grid?

What's the net value of these coins now? Is this going to drop the price since there are so many?
zippzom··on Making the new silicon
What is the difference between silicon and gallium nitride that makes silicon default to off when the circuit is broken and the standard GaN transistors default to on?
zippzom··on Using Algorithms to Determine Character
Are they using machine learning to determine this or simply a hard coded algorithm? I would imagine a combination of both, but I'm very curious how they generated enough data to train their model.
zippzom··on How Google Translate squeezes deep learning onto a phone
What are the advantages of using a neural network over generating classification trees or using other machine learning methods? I'm not too familiar with how neural nets work, but it seems like they require more creator input than other methods, which could be good or bad I suppose.
zippzom··on What's the deal with translating Seinfeld
This must be true for all comedy. It relies on the language itself, and the tone/intonation, much more than drama or romance which are far more plot driven.

If you think about what are the popular foreign movies in the US, almost none of them are comedy. Those that are comedy are much more slapstick than subtle.

zippzom··on A Renegade Trawler, Hunted for 10,000 Miles by Vigilantes
This series is really good. The fact that the nytimes is bleeding money while still producing content of this quality is a sad state of affairs. Must be a better way to monetize this stuff.
