zingermc··on Ask HN: Any job boards and age-friendly companies for older developers?
I think the government would call it discrimination.

> The law prohibits discrimination [against people over 40] in any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, benefits, and any other term or condition of employment.

zingermc··on The SeL4 Foundation: What and Why
Ah, it appears that is only done for ARM, but not x86. It would be great if x86 were more amenable to FM, or if we had faster formally-specified processors. Can't wait for a RISC-V workstation!
zingermc··on Deep Molecular Programming
This paper mentions CRN++, a compiler that translates an imperative language into Chemical Reaction Networks. I had no idea this field existed. This stuff is mind bogglingly cool!

zingermc··on Please re-add original author to docs and license
If you still have the SVN repo, there should be a way to actually import all the commits to a Git repo (git-svn). Then, you could rebase the entire master branch of the current GitHub repo. That might show more of your contributions if many of them are hidden by the "guake_root" commit.
zingermc··on The 5th-generation Waymo Driver
To be fully pedantic, 1000 orders of magnitude (10^1000) is really 900 orders of magnitude larger than a googol.

10^1000 / 10^100 = 10^900

Easy, use CRISPR to make trees immune to chainsaws.

Are those the last two characters of stringing NaN?
zingermc··on Piet, a programming language in which programs look like abstract paintings
A while ago, I tried making a Piet compiler in Haskell that emits LLVM IR. Eventually I found an inconsistency between my interpretation of the spec and npiet's implementation, so some Hello World examples would print something like "Hello wowowowowo...".

zingermc··on Samsung TVs May Upload Screenshots for Automatic Content Recognition
You're still assuming it won't detect this and periodically phone home from an open network.
zingermc··on Samsung TVs May Upload Screenshots for Automatic Content Recognition
This assumes a certain (low) level of malicious intent. A fully malicious TV will connect to open WiFi nearby or use even more exotic methods to exfiltrate data.

One terrible but effective solution is to turn your home into a Faraday cage.
zingermc··on Father and Daughter Convicted for $100M Fraudulent Tax Refund Scheme
Eh, I see this as a form of eventual consistency.
zingermc··on An opinionated approach to GNU Make
There are some GNU Makefiles that invoke `make` manually instead of `$(MAKE)`. On FreeBSD, where `make` is bmake, this is a pain in the ass.
zingermc··on An opinionated approach to GNU Make
It's still 100% relevant. I can only speak for FreeBSD, but this is a real pain when building from source (outside of FreeBSD Ports).

zingermc··on Expansion of cytotoxic CD4 T cells in supercentenarians
With full knowledge I am being an armchair statistician, wouldn't it be difficult to tell the difference between supercentenarians having extraordinary resistance to disease and supercentenarians being the ones who got lucky? Perhaps getting diseases is bad for your longevity!
zingermc··on Gibberish Asian Font Mystery Solved (2006)
Probably a joke, but I'm guessing the implication is that lawyers are litigious.

It feels wrong, but profession is not a protected class in the US. Maybe this is a kind of discrimination that is legal.

zingermc··on Superior IQs associated with mental and physical disorders, research suggests
You would have to sample a lot of people (yes, there is a selection bias in the people that participate) and give all of them IQ tests.

zingermc··on A new study of rudeness in the workplace
People can inhibit their negative behavior when they are trying to get people to like them and gain social status. If they feel empowered by having some status or a promotion, they may begin to "punch down".
zingermc··on A new study of rudeness in the workplace
There's really no excuse for being rude in the workplace. Please get help instead of trying to justify it.

If multiple people have made HR complaints "behind your back", you are not competently performing your job. (This directly affects your claimed 3X performance because you drag down your coworkers.)
