Sorry for commenting about the page itself, but did anyone else have to go into reader mode to read it? The page is bouncing up and down, the text is extremely blurry and varying in size letter by letter, and every element seems randomly slanted.
> <blank> phone number on <blank> IMEI/IMSI should be allowed to register presence on Jibe
Funny, I more or less said a few weeks ago that SIM cards do not guarantee freely being able to swap numbers between phones more than eSIMs do, because the carrier could tie the SIM's phone number to the IMEI in the backend either way. That was just kinda dismissed as a not being a real threat... and yet here it seems exactly what's happened for the RCS part of your service!
Exactly. People are very hung up on "unwrap" but even if it wasn't there at all, you will have devs just manually writing the match. Or, even more likely, using a trivial 'unwrap!" macro.
There's also an assumption here that if the unwrap wasn't there, the caller would have handled the error properly. But if this isn't part of some common library at CF, then chances are the caller is the same person who wrote the panicking function in the first place. So if a new error variant they introduced was returned they'd probably still abort the thread either by panicking at that point or breaking out of the thread's processing loop.
This feels better than the original anyway. I never liked the yellow color that one had. Maybe it was an artistic choice, but to me it just looked degraded, like when white plastic is left exposed to the sun.
Foveated rendering is already a thing. But since it needs to be coded for in the game, it's not really being used on PC games. Games designed for Playstation with the PS VR 2 in mind do use foveated rendering since they know their games are being played with hardware that provides eye tracking.
Yes that is the one exception (heh) to the rule unfortunately. You can throw from anywhere so it must support unwinding from any point. So if you were really intent on abusing the finally you could wrap the try-finally in a try-catch and then throw from the finally and put your continue in the catch.
There's no solution to lock-in because there must be some massively shared domain that the email address exists on for the anonymity of the service to properly work. However if you are simply looking for an alternative to Apple, Fastmail offers a masked email service too.
Most other commenters here are honestly making me feel crazy for thinking that asking to hop on a call seemed perfectly reasonable. I don't even like calls most of the time, but I do recognize that sometimes they are a better way to communicate than text and this seems like one of those times.
I wasn't too averse to using the construction until I saw the latest Eddy Burback video where he had an AI encouraging the delusions he was faking for the sake of the video. The sheer number of times the AI said "it's not just X, it's Y" absolutely broke any willingness I had to ever say anything like that again.
That doesn't cover games not on Steam, is incorrect in at least one case about playability, and an analysis of currently active players does not account for people who play multiple games.
Squash is just something you do at the point of merging. It's a single option during the merge and doesn't have you doing any more work than a merge that you don't squash. I don't know about github, but I know in gitlab it's a simple checkbox in the merge request (and it can be set to be checked by default by the admin if they want).
As someone squarely in gen y. I've had the same feelings about me doing stuff that others are associating with gen z.
I think there may be two things at play here. One is that some people are just bad at adapting to social shifts and assume that everyone is the same way as them. The other is that people have gotten loose with usage of generation terms. So for some older people "gen z" = "person younger than me", while for some younger people "boomer" = "person older than me"
And both of those are problems with the speaker, so now I just ignore them and happily keep on doing the "gen z" things.
"Annoying" is probably a more accurate word to describe what they're thinking. Coworkers have to remember to not use the reaction buttons with this one specific person who responds like an ass to them.
> Or, another strain of thought goes, technologies that are yet to be developed will suddenly appear to save the day...
We have technologies that can reduce our carbon emissions... and they get fought against by the people saying that they're not worried because tech will be invented that solves the problems
Couldn't they do that with physical SIM cards? On their end, record the IMEI of the first device they see connecting with a specific SIM card and then disallow connections if that SIM is used with a different IMEI.
Rust taught me that a language does not have to be purely functional to have everything be an expression, and ever since I first used Rust years ago I've been wishing every other language worked that way. It's such a nice way to avoid or limit the scope of mutations
Would be nice if anything that supports multiline messages let you toggle into a multiline mode where enter always puts in newlines and a combo like ctrl+enter sends the message.
But anti-cheat was first developed in a time where server browsers were the norm. Punkbuster was developed back in 2000 (independently of Valve) for HL1/CS, which had no matchmaking system. So you're just plain wrong about the motivation.
What do you consider "actual cron"? Because the post specifically says Vixie cron, which has been the basis for most versions of cron on Linux systems.
One person I was talking to said they assumed that 67 is derived from the longstanding funny number: 69. I think that actually makes perfect sense because 7 ate 9.
It's not localhost that's broken, it's a specific mechanism of using the OS HTTP libraries to bind a service (possibly even limited to HTTP/2 ones) to localhost. Which is still a crazy bug to ship with but a much different problem from localhost being blanket broken.
I hate the obsession with low/no fat that has stuck around for decades here. Taking out the fat makes the food less tasty and less satiating. Not to mention that extra sugar tends to be added to try to compensate for the taste, thus making it at least as bad for you if not worse than if had more fat.
I use the models via Cursor and I prefer the output and speed of Claude Sonnet reasoning mode over Gemini 2.5 Pro. But my work is heavily in ETL/ELT processes and backend business processes. So maybe if I was doing a lot of web stuff it would be different.
