> I love my M1 Pro MacBook and I wish I could have the same efficiency when running Linux but I can't.

No doubt. And don't forget Apple nailed the trackpad experience too. But I seldom need to use my laptop for 20 hours away from an A/C outlet. It's nice, but not necessary for me.

With that being said, I personally am going to start abandoning the Apple ecosystem with each device that NEEDS to be replaced. I'm tired of features being forced into each software cycle, and I don't want any AI on my devices.

I'm going to lean into Framework (or keep my old T480 alive) and GrapheneOS when needed.

> Framework starts so far behind in performance ...

Honest question and not meant to flame anyone. What benchmark are you referring to regarding performance; spec sheets or your tools are not working correctly or working slowly?

Just trying to understand users needs in upgrading. I have some new MacBooks and some old linux laptops. They both equally work just fine for what I need to do, and I am starting to question the need for me to update to a new MacBook M* chipset moving forward.

Yeah, if you use the mobile app, your GPS icon lights up until you get there.

Crazy invasive. Guess they want to see how far you drive and what route you get to get there.

It's best to get your order code, leave your phone at home and just pull up and say "I have order EM14..."

I protect mine with GPG for SSH authentication.

My favorite is when someone posts their private key to a Slack or Teams channel, then says "I'll just delete it after it is received..."

No. Just no. That key is forever unclean.

> Bullying is not new and was performed via sms before the internet

I seem to remember real bullies would do it to your face before the internet. Not just anyone behind a keyboard.

If you have calibre, just turn on the wireless connection and have your Koreader connect to it.

What about HTC, LG? Heck, Blackberry rising from the ashes?

I'd love for it to be Framework.

Don't forget the one or two cool circular chickenpox scars that you might still have today.

It was like a badge of honor.

Good. Maybe they'll add search to the terminal now. /s

Many, many, many years ago (before 9/11 and before cell phones were commonplace) I used to carry my ham radio HT and call on simplex (146.52 for those that know) and make contacts. Those were fun times.

Every time I get a dev or executive sending me a Slack message saying "can you reset my password" or "can your provision me in...", my very next reply is "please send me your public key".

They do not get their credentials until they do so. And once they do, our security posture gets better and better.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

> This is the weirdest technology market that I’ve seen.

You must have not lived through the dot com boom. There was almost everything under the sun was being sold under a website that started with an "e". ePets, ePlants, eStamps, eUnderwear, eStocks, eCards, eInvites.....

There's always rsync or rclone, and cron.

And right before morel mushrooms are harvested.

> superfood

Most superfoods are what we ate when we were poor growing up. Nettles, collards, mustard greens, kale...

My opinion, the word superfood, gets people to pay a premium for cheap and easily commercially grown plants.

Silence is compliance.

True. Or maybe resurrect HTC.

> Looks like GrapheneOS will be available on another "major Android OEM” soon.

I'm secretly hoping that this will be Framework or Nothing.

Venomous snakes far outnumber the poisonous ones.

"Is there some reason why "global" services aren't replicated across regions?"

us-east-1 is so the government to slurp up all the data. /tin-foil hat

According to Project 2025, we won't ever see them again.

"Eliminate energy efficiency standards for appliances. Pursuant to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 as amended, the agency is required to set and periodically tighten energy and/or water efficiency standards for nearly all kinds of commercial and household appliances, including air conditioners, furnaces, water heaters, stoves, clothes washers and dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, light bulbs, and showerheads. Current law and regulations reduce consumer choice, drive up costs for consumer appliances, and emphasize energy efficiency to the exclusion of other important factors such as cycle time and reparability."

I secretly wish Framework will do this one day.

Is it a Subaru? If so, I seem to remember a bypass harness you can buy.

I actually messed around with Delta.chat this past weekend for the first time.

It's kinda cool. If or when, I need to setup new communication needs, I might use this. (Currently do not have a need for any)

"My good reason to carry a knife is that God gave me rather weak teeth and rudimentary claws in an evolutionary trade-off. The hairy-armed person who figured out how to put an edge on a suitable rock made it possible for us to be recognizably human in the first place. I wear a wristwatch whether or not I have an appointment to keep, and I carry a pen and/or pencil because I am a literate person whether or not I have a specific writing task ahead of me, and I carry a knife because I am a human and not an ape."

You'd love NASCAR then.

It's not really cheating in NASCAR, but rather, "it wasn't in the rulebook".
