zfg··on Carlos Slim cancels his collaboration with Elon Musk's Starlink
> Do we hate him because of DOGE?

Musk wants Ukraine to submit to Russia: https://www.npr.org/2022/10/04/1126714896/elon-musk-ukraine-...

He wants Taiwan to submit to China: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/oct/08/elon-musk...

He thinks America is full of complacency and entitlement whereas China rocks: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/31/tesla-ceo-elon-musk-china-ro...

He has pledged his commitment to China's core socialist values: https://www.mediaite.com/news/elon-musk-signs-letter-pledgin...

And so on and so on. There's lots to choose from.

China and Russia used to think they had to beat America.

Then they hoped America would beat itself.

I bet they never expected America to turn into an ally.

zfg··on Carlos Slim cancels his collaboration with Elon Musk's Starlink
How much time do you really think he's putting into running Tesla these days?

He's not running it. Tesla employees call him a "pigeon CEO" because "he comes in, shits all over us, and then leaves":

https://electrek.co/2024/04/22/elon-musk-pigeon-ceo-former-t...

All Musk does these days is actively damage the brand and lose sales:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/feb/25/tesla-sal...

zfg··on It is obvious to anyone who has tried FSD 13 that Tesla's best days are ahead
Yes, yes. According to Musk Tesla's best days are always ahead:

zfg··on Jeff Bezos exerts more control of Washington Post opinion
So.. CNN is doing good, well sourced journalism?
zfg··on Ask HN: If you work for Elon Musk, what keeps you motivated?
> I lean Right myself

But surely not this far right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smQNNo2a9xc

> have seen the MSM been caught in lie after lie after lie over the past 20 years

You mean like Musk has told lie after lie over the past 20 years?

> Going after bureaucracy and government efficiency is incredibly important

Nothing DOGE is doing is about efficiency. They're not trying to understand or improve any of it. They're just haphazardly throwing it away. Like this with ebola prevention:

https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-suggests-he-alone-decides-what...

zfg··on Jeff Bezos exerts more control of Washington Post opinion
Or you could simply find plenty of criticism of Trump on CNN's website which would invalidate the concern.
zfg··on Jeff Bezos exerts more control of Washington Post opinion
Okay, but what's a real world example of that happening on CNN's website today?
zfg··on Jeff Bezos exerts more control of Washington Post opinion
What's an example of that pivot from CNN's website today?

zfg··on US sides with Russia in UN resolutions on Ukraine
China will consider it encouraging for their ambition to take Taiwan.

Which came as a surprise to Farage who had previously welcomed and endorsed Musk's desire to interfere in UK politics: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1kez8d2dygo

zfg··on Grok 3 claims its system prompt includes censorship about Musk/Trump
Musk is going to be a speaker at Y Combinator's AI Startup School event: https://events.ycombinator.com/ai-sus

Attendees should ask him about the bias in his systems and whether that bias is building a better or a worse world.

But given that the attendees will be "hand picked" maybe they won't ask such questions.

zfg··on Why does the US have it in for gig workers?
If companies can't pay a living wage or live up to basic requirements then they are inefficient, pointless companies that have a bad business model.

If companies are premised on the expectation that governments will fill the gap between what the company pays and what people need in order to simply live then those companies are premised on taxpayer funded government handouts.

You probably don't think of yourself as a socialist but what you're arguing for is socialism. And not only socialism but the worst kind of socialism: corporate welfare.

zfg··on The 'Pointless Bloodbath' at the FAA Is Even Worse Than You Think
That's what's happening now.

The FBI has been asked to fill out a survey about the January 6 insurrection, presumably to get rid of people who did their job:

zfg··on Why Musk Admires China
No, Musk admires China because he is an authoritarian at heart.
zfg··on Time to get back to respecting the 'no politics' rule
> what is different this time around? Why is politics suddenly a relevant topic here?

Because the tech sector is now explicitly and unabashedly political.

Musk, for example, is flipping fascist salutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smQNNo2a9xc

And censoring speech: https://www.techdirt.com/2025/02/03/musk-shows-us-what-actua...

And helpfully calling an astronaut "fully retarded":

And seeking to wreck Wikipedia, one of the internet's greatest projects: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2025/02/elon-...

And mocking a blind man who disagrees with him for being blind: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2025/02/17/elon-mu...

And threatening companies with government interference if they don't advertise on Twitter: https://www.wsj.com/business/media/x-hinted-at-possible-deal...

And so on and so on. It's grubby stuff.

This is what so much of the tech industry is now. You can't be afraid to look at what it has become.

zfg··on Amazon MGM Studios will gain creative control of the James Bond franchise
Barbara Broccoli thinks the people at Amazon are "fucking idiots":

zfg··on Tesla was hit by a wave of protests, sales are crashing, insiders are waking up
> I may be wrong about that, but we will have to wait to find out.

You are wrong.

> That's a trope, indeed already a cliché

Dude, that you think you might be right demonstrates that you haven't been paying attention.

Musk doesn't just have form, he's going for the record.

There will be a stink around Y Combinator's AI Startup School event. Musk will bring the stink with him.

And the source of that stink may be as simple as attendees having family members sacked by DOGE. Or it might be because he's of such weak character that he lies about being good at video games. Or perhaps it will be America's sell out of Ukraine, something Musk has advocated for:

https://www.npr.org/2022/10/04/1126714896/elon-musk-ukraine-...

There's lots to choose from.

zfg··on Tesla was hit by a wave of protests, sales are crashing, insiders are waking up
No one forgets Zuckerberg thinks Facebook users are dumb fucks: https://www.businessinsider.com/well-these-new-zuckerberg-im...

They won't forget Musk's fascist salutes either. If anything, Musk's salutes have been more public, have done more brand damage, and have revealed worse character.

Musk and Zuckerberg are showing you who and what they are.

Pay attention.

zfg··on Tech Continues to Be Political
She'd probably think, "Gee whiz! I'm glad my browser has a zoom function and a reader mode!"
zfg··on Tech Continues to Be Political
Y Combinator has the opportunity to ask those questions in four months time: https://events.ycombinator.com/ai-sus

I'm curious to see if they do.

zfg··on Tesla was hit by a wave of protests, sales are crashing, insiders are waking up
> HN users wanting to preserve HN for its intended purpose of intellectual curiosity

Curiosity is sustained and long term. Curiosity is being willing to understand things completely.

What you're arguing for is novelty and distraction. That is shallow thinking, not curious thinking.

A month ago after Musk's fascist salutes you said, "This sort of flare-up always feels absolutely critical in the moment—how can one possibly justify not dropping everything to orbit around it?—and then vanishes. Their half life is so brief that I'm surprised people don't notice how ephemeral they are. They come in an endless sequence, and they aren't what HN is supposed to be for. They're also not that hard to resist; it's not as if this is a borderline call."

You were clearly wrong. It hasn't vanished. You should be curious about that.

In four months Y Combinator will hold an AI Startup School event with speakers including Musk: https://events.ycombinator.com/ai-sus

Bias is a real problem in AI systems. Will you be at the event? What questions will you put to Musk about his biases and how they will be reflected in Grok?

Be curious. Ask those questions.

There are six obligations in the Budapest Memorandum. Your two aren't part of it:

https://treaties.un.org/doc/Publication/UNTS/Volume%203007/P...

Russia signed as well. Russia broke with their obligations when they annexed Crimea in 2014 and again with their further invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

zfg··on Top Social Security Official Leaves After Musk Team Seeks Data Access

zfg··on Top Social Security Official Leaves After Musk Team Seeks Data Access
They're resigning at the point they would be fired anyway.

It's not entitlement, it's doing the right thing for as long as you can.
