zeeone··on Why don't they implement Python and Ruby on the web browsers?
If Python uses indentation rather than curly braces or keywords, then it would not allow for minimization or obfuscation when used in the browser. This is the main reason IMO Google chose to design Dart with curly braces.
zeeone··on Why MySQL’s DATETIME can and should be avoided
A junior developer who doesn't know about epoch time should not be given any tasks other than "bring more tea" and "go pickup the chinese food order".

Also, let me see your "complicated" built-in date processing functions convert a date from Gregorian calendar to Julian or Mayan. You'll always come down to using your own tools.

zeeone··on Nodejitsu unveils: Flatiron web framework for node.js
Nice, lightweight framework, but the template system (Plates) seems weak. It only binds to DOM elements. This means two things: a) You always have to use HTML for all of your templates; b) You have to create a new DOM element for each variable. Example <div id="greet">Hello <div id="name">Batman</div></div> instead of <div id="greet">Hello <%= name %></div>
zeeone··on Underscore Perl
You're being too harsh. I think Underscore.pm provides an unified interface to a lot of missing array functions. Big deal that it overlaps some existing CPAN/Core Perl functionality. I would easily replace the List::* modules with this.
zeeone··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (August 2011)
SEEKING WEB UI DESIGNER

Los Angeles based startup is looking for a strong user interface designer for a web app. Must have a good eye for colors and layouts. The job requires designing a lot of pretty forms, buttons and overlays so your CSS must be top notch. JavaScript skills are helpful but not necessary. No programming skills are required. Send an email with screenshots or links to minimalist at lavabit dot com.

zeeone··on A very weird/creepy interactive girl, but great rendering
She looks stoned out of her mind!
zeeone··on Ask HN: What kind of spam/SEO gaming is this?
Wow! This is horrifying! It looks like the video from "The Ring"...
zeeone··on But You're too Old to do a Startup
Seriously? Why is this crappy article on the front page? Because it has the word "Startup" in the title?
zeeone··on Dish Network buys Blockbuster for $320 million
What a bad move! A company of a dying type buys an already dead company. Nothing new or original to come out of this.
zeeone··on Nasdaq Acknowledges Security Breach
"In a written statement, the company said during its normal security screening, it discovered "malware" files installed on a part of its network called Director's Desk..."

One can only imagine how many virtual strippers were dancing on their desktops at that time.

zeeone··on Wikileaks says it is under attack
Just take a walk in the mall today and tell me if you think those people are ready to handle the truth.
zeeone··on Wikileaks says it is under attack
Hi. Reddit is this way ---> http://reddit.com
zeeone··on Wikileaks says it is under attack
The national security of all countries involved. Sensitive diplomatic information is often better handled by diplomats. Unleashed to the masses, it may cause unnecessary aggression, maybe even riots somewhere. Not to mention that it puts a lot of people's lives at risk.
zeeone··on Wikileaks says it is under attack
Off topic, but I had to ask this: Am I the only one here that thinks that this upcoming leak will pose a threat to the national security and should be stopped?
zeeone··on What would a newspaper look like if it were invented today?
Lost me at the moment he said "You can connect to your social networks ... "
zeeone··on A simple solution to eliminating terrorism on planes.
This is quite possibly the worst idea I've ever heard. So what happens if you buy a ticket and there no one on the plane who knows you and can approve you? I travel by myself most of the time and I'm not a celebrity.
zeeone··on Which IDE are you using under Unix/Linux for visual debugging?
I use ddd.
zeeone··on Costco - Food for a whole year - $799 Awesome
Seems lucrative at first, but I would subject myself to eating canned food for a year. This kind of diet is completely deprived from nutrients. I can only imagine the state of my health after a year. For a little more than that one could shop at Trader Joe's and eat fresh, organic and locally made produce.
zeeone··on DuckDuckGo Review
I came here to post the exact same complaint. I used to have DDG as my default search on all browsers, but eventually I got annoyed by the slow speed of loading and switched back to Google.

Once the guy fixes this issue, I'll be the first one to go back to DDG, because I liked being able to search privately and anonymously.

zeeone··on JavaScript Things I Wish I Knew Much Earlier In My Career
He says: "I’ve been writing JavaScript code for much longer than I care to remember." And he didn't know about "var direction = x < 200 ? 1 : -1;" ? Really?
zeeone··on [dead]
I think the main flaw of Reddit is that it allowed kids from Digg to overtake it and flood it with their personal drama, bullshit memes and uninteresting photos/videos.
zeeone··on "We live in an amazing world and it's wasted on the crappiest generation..."
I think he's making a good point. You can't deny that the technological advances in the last 15 years were bigger than than in the last 200. He's just saying that all of that is easily taken for granted.
zeeone··on Dear American Website Owner
The only reason I can think of is for internal statistics. For example the website owner can run a report on their customers broken down by a state or country. Nowadays with GeoIP, this is obsolete.
zeeone··on Dear American Website Owner
Which would make so much more sense in the first place. I don't even know why did they make them in separate fields in the first place. To give you a huge listbox of all states to choose from?! Oh, wow!
zeeone··on Sergey Brin's awesome webpage.
He looks like a capable guy and I would like to hire him.
zeeone··on Will New Internet Domain Names Change the Web?
You're missing the point. The folks in the rural areas won't be able to use a computer in the first place, because the keyboards are in latin. I've never seen a Cyrillic or Arabic keyboard.
zeeone··on Will New Internet Domain Names Change the Web?
Internationalizing the domains names is utterly pointless. Most keyboards in the world are in latin, which means that people who use a different alphabet have to switch keyboard mode. It's just not convenient. Imagine this:

  > goole.com
  > Alt-Shift-Win (to switch)
  > говедо.ком
  > Alt-Shift-Win (switch back)
Bah ... bulshit.
zeeone··on Brewing a Better Rating System
Meh...
zeeone··on Lucid programming language

  running_avg
  where
     sum = first(input) fby sum + next(input);
     n = 1 fby n + 1;
     running_avg = sum / n;
  end;
So if you change the name of the function, you have to change it everywhere inside its body? I'm not sure if I like that.
zeeone··on Couldn't sleep. Wrote some code to displays live feed of latest twitpics.
Man, you're crazy ... I can't stop watching. Now I also can't sleep.
