zachperret··on Seed (YC W15) Wants to Reinvent Business Banking
Brian is right here. Plaid builds API infrastructure on top of existing FI's, whereas Seed is building a new bank. Maybe one day we can incorporate Seed as a data source into Plaid directly.

This is neat! How does the data differ from http://www.binlist.net/? More current?
zachperret··on How ACH works: A developer perspective
Building a relationship with an ODFI generally takes many months (3-6) and multiple audits (sometimes including PCI), in addition to specific risk and capital requirements. Marketplaces generally have higher compliance & capital requirements, as consumer debits are one of the riskiest ACH transactions. For their customers, Balanced (and others) remove a lot of the compliance & business overhead in exchange for a higher fee (most ODFI's charge less than $0.15/transaction even at low volume).

San Francisco, CA - Full Time - Developers

Plaid is building the missing API for Spending Data - we make it simple for any application to link with the data generated by credit card transactions. In the process, we're generating one of the largest transactional data sets in the world, and using machine learning to draw insights about how consumers spend their time, money, and attention.

We're a small, all engineering team - looking to bring on more ambitious, fun team members. Our stack is made up of Node, Hadoop and Hive with Mongo and Redis. We're looking for experienced generalists, and prefer fast learners to specific experience with our stack. Whether you're a developer, data scientist, or or a resident philosopher we'd love to hear from you.

zachperret··on Why must you laugh at my back end?
Really you should only be worried if you're using version 1 apps. I'm a fan of quick prototyping and quick release (in alpha/beta, of course), as long as the team is committed to putting the time in on the back-end. Getting a product out is an important step 1...the real work (and money) is in steps 2-1000.

Did anybody notice that you can workaround needing an invite by clicking "Take the Tour" and then "Join the Project" on their demo website?

Does the title itself not turn anyone else off? "Our office is too big..." is a big red flag to me. Seems like they either took too much money too early or are having internal scaling issues, possibly both. Definitely not in the vein of the lean startup...
