Wordpress if you want maximum flexibility later. Even though it gets hacked, keep it updated and use the right plugins to minimize the risk involved.

$1000 to $2000 seems reasonable for a moderately complex project (not just an HTML text page, but decent design with some complex PHP/Javascript functionality). I'm in the market for something like that.

That said, I would spec it out completely. Others may not, and so that might not be worth your time and energy. For a well spec-ed project with reasonable and agreed upon complexity, a few thousand seems reasonable.

Great idea! Maybe I missed it, but how many people do you have subscribed to begin with? Perhaps that number isn't as high now, but that would be valuable information to display if it was something high enough to attract startups and sponsors.

Frankly, I think the new design is long overdue and has a strong sense of usability and sleek, elegant design. Instead of making a change to only one of its online properties, Google used Google+ as an opportunity to revamp its entire ecosystem to provide a consisten and clean UI. I like it a lot, and am glad Google is finally using its designers.
