Centre of equal daughters, equal sons,

All, all alike endear’d, grown, ungrown, young or old,

Strong, ample, fair, enduring, capable, rich,

Perennial with the Earth, with Freedom, Law and Love,

A grand, sane, towering, seated Mother,

Chair’d in the adamant of Time.

youngerdryas··on Apple Introduces iOS 7
If you have iTunes Match.
youngerdryas··on Encrypt your Google chats and make the NSA sad
Apple obviously does specialize in hardware and if you use iMessage it is already encrypted.
youngerdryas··on A Story of Surveillance (2007)
>I think the most immediate step going forward that can be done on the side of the private sector is to stop collecting, as much as possible, extensive profiles on people, especially profiles that are, or easily can be, tied to their real identity.

So Google and Facebook should commit Seppuku?

youngerdryas··on A Story of Surveillance (2007)
Critical thinking is hard, indignance is easy.
youngerdryas··on Did Obama Just Destroy the U.S. Internet Industry?
The poor helpless Europeans, laboring under the yoke of their North American oppressors. Exactly what method is being used to relieve you of your responsibility for your own country?
youngerdryas··on Has the US become the type of nation from which you have to seek asylum?
If he is sitting in Australia in fear of the US I think he needs more help than a few words will offer.
youngerdryas··on Has the US become the type of nation from which you have to seek asylum?
Not exactly. A lot of people voted for Obama because he promised more transparency. He appears to be breaking his promises. If he was smart, which he hasn't seemed lately, he would use this crisis to try to regain some credibility.
youngerdryas··on Has the US become the type of nation from which you have to seek asylum?
You do know that Australia and NZ share intel with your boogie monster don't you?
youngerdryas··on Has the US become the type of nation from which you have to seek asylum?
The problem is Ellsburg released evidence of government officials doing something illegal which meant he was shielded. The NSA story, which is not even fully known yet, though classified is apparently legal and has congressional as well as judicial oversight. The IRS and reporter wire taps are far more likely to take down the presidency.
youngerdryas··on 22 American nuclear bombs are stored in The Netherlands
There was something ironic about playing Missile Command at the height of the Cold War. No matter how well you did in the end you always lost all your cities.
youngerdryas··on Rewarding Edward Snowden's Courage
>Donating to a third party, or even a major party that happens to lose, could one day become "aiding an enemy of the state."

Everyone has lost their minds.

youngerdryas··on United States incarceration rate
These numbers are from 2008, and quite a few states have decriminalized pot, so I wouldn't get quite too excited. Also it is probably just coincidental that crime peaked just as incarceration rates went up and crime rates continued to decline as incarceration increased.
youngerdryas··on Edward Snowden: the whistleblower behind revelations of NSA surveillance
Admitting weakness is a virtue in some religions.
youngerdryas··on Edward Snowden: the whistleblower behind revelations of NSA surveillance
This is how we achieve real change, by real heroes like mindcrime standing up and saying blow me. They are sure to fall.
youngerdryas··on How three pacifists were convicted as terrorists
More link bait. Charged != turned. The puffed up charges have to hold up in court.

Edit: I somehow missed that they were convicted. Regardless of the semantics of the law I am quite sure they do not support violence.

youngerdryas··on US surveillance revelations deepen European fears
There are federal laws against marijuana but the Feds don't bust people in MA for smoking weed, though apparently technically they could.
youngerdryas··on US surveillance revelations deepen European fears
The title was "German State Justice Minister Calls for Boycott of US companies".

I think the only way to roll this back, if it even can be rolled back, is to attack from the states using state power. If CA, NY, TX, UT, VT, every state, starts making their own privacy laws to hamstring the Feds they may have to change their tune for practicality.

youngerdryas··on Burner Phone
How easy is it to set on fire, I love the smell of burning electronics.
youngerdryas··on President Obama’s Dragnet
>You don't have to register anywhere because they don't need that.

That is not a very good argument. Why do the Germans need you to register at the local police station?

youngerdryas··on President Obama’s Dragnet
I've never registered anywhere and I have moved a lot. In the states we have at least 20 million undocumented. In Germany you legally have to report someone that doesn't have an ID card.
youngerdryas··on Your iPhone works for the secret police
We need to teach more history to the youngsters.
youngerdryas··on Your iPhone works for the secret police
Although set in London I always thought 1984 was rather Soviet.
youngerdryas··on Your iPhone works for the secret police
This could never happen on Android.
youngerdryas··on Your iPhone works for the secret police
I am not sure you realize that UK citizens go to jail if they express unpopular opinions on twitter.
youngerdryas··on The Internet Is a Surveillance State
>If smoking pot is a felony

In what western country is it a felony?

Also if more than one percent commits fraud you could have a problem.

youngerdryas··on Thousands dead, millions deprived of civil liberties? (2001)
>I'm not talking about searches at airports here. Searches of people or baggage for weapons, as long as they check only for weapons and keep no records about you if you have no weapons, are just an inconvenience; they do not endanger civil liberties.
youngerdryas··on Ask HN: Why do you care about privacy?
Maybe break your pills in half.
youngerdryas··on President Obama’s Dragnet
I assume you got your national ID card and register at the police station every time you move.
youngerdryas··on Mutator silences your iPhone, no exceptions
My phone mutes texts, I don't get it.
youngerdryas··on John Gruber and friends launch Vesper note capture app
That is pretty unfair to pg and people that don't like clown colors. A browser extension version should only take a couple hours.
