yogorenapan··on Meta Llama 3
I actually like that. I know they aren’t the “best” responses but as defaults, I would be more suspicious if it gave paid tools. I’m tested it and you can just ask for commercial tools if you want
yogorenapan··on FyneDesk – Linux desktop environment in Go
CGO being slow is unavoidable. It’s external to Go and (afaik) has to be rebuilt every time
yogorenapan··on Hacked Nvidia 4090 GPU driver to enable P2P
Curious as to your reasoning,
yogorenapan··on Zed Decoded: Async Rust
That’s just how things are on Windows. Building just about anything requires Visual Studio (not the UI but the tooling that comes with it. E.g. msbuild and C++ headers)

You won’t have to do this on Linux or if you use a pre-built exe

yogorenapan··on WindCon2024: A Joke Too Far for Many
Not a subscriber but enjoyed the video. Nice entertainment if bored. Feels pretty high production value. Don’t understand how it has anything to do being a VPN though
yogorenapan··on Ask HN: What's the worst that could have happened had xz gone unnoticed?
Just an assumption. There are very little reasons for a person to carry out such an attack but it’s still possible
yogorenapan··on Ask HN: What's the worst that could have happened had xz gone unnoticed?
The attacker would probably want to keep the exploit hidden, thus probably restricting themselves to data exfiltration rather than outright obvious attacks. Considering that’s it’s a state actor, perhaps people arrested and dark web sites shut down.
yogorenapan··on Microsoft reveals how much you'll have to pay to keep using Windows 10 securely
Unless you game, Linux is very good. I’ve been using it for 4 years and it’s much more stable than others make it out to be. You do need to be careful not to mess things up though. Accidentally broke kernel modules yesterday and had to spend a few hours debugging without internet
yogorenapan··on What we know about the xz Utils backdoor that almost infected the world
Adding on to that, it might be difficult to differentiate between people from China vs Taiwan/Singapore/etc and since people are generally anonymous online, they can use any name they want
yogorenapan··on What we know about the xz Utils backdoor that almost infected the world
I agree. I don’t follow the time zone of the country I live in as I work remote. Haven’t seen the sun in a while. Probably not healthy.
yogorenapan··on Anakin – Automatically Kill Orphans
The name is definitely clever. I do feel like terminology in our field might need to change a bit at some point as to make communication easier with other fields.
yogorenapan··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
Why is rust beginning to sound like JavaScript?
yogorenapan··on Vultr is now claiming full perpetual commercial rights over all hosted content
I suppose you could stick with AWS or Azure. I ended up using the VPS that sponsors mailcow (eth-services.de) which is slightly more expensive by a few cents
yogorenapan··on OpenVoice: Versatile instant voice cloning
Note: the open source version is watered down compared to their commercial offering. Tried both out and the quality doesn’t come close to
yogorenapan··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
Very strange behavior from the upstream developers. Possible government involvement? I have a feeling LANG is checked to target servers from particular countries
yogorenapan··on Vultr is now claiming full perpetual commercial rights over all hosted content
Similar experience with Hetzner. They seem to be extremely ban-happy. I get banned when I first sign up for no particular reason other than I tend to have my VPN on. After emailing support and providing identification, I still got banned after changing my billing to use privacy.com
yogorenapan··on FTX to Sell $884M of Anthropic Shares to Two Dozen Institutional Investors
> FTX's FTT token climbed 10% on the news.

How is the token still trading? I thought FTX has already collapsed.

yogorenapan··on Boeing CEO Calhoun to step down at end of 2024
Would be disappointing if this was the only action done rather than a wider restructuring to fix the culture
yogorenapan··on Be more lucky
I find luck very strange. On one hand, I try to be rational and interpret it as just statistics. On the other, I sometimes get creeped out at seemingly “too good to be true” luck. As in sometimes money just falls from the sky among other seemingly impossible things.
yogorenapan··on Hyprland Crash Course
I’ve been using Hyprland for a few months. It’s been pretty stable and I haven’t had any issues so far
yogorenapan··on Approximation of the Claude 3 tokenizer by inspecting generation stream
The Claude 3 tokenizer seems to be slightly broken for code. Claude 3 gives really good answers but sometimes long code snippets seem to be corrupted with missing chunks and weird indentation.

Might try this out and see what’s going on

yogorenapan··on 'Make a private hosted version': dev's top tip for studios shutting down game
I agree. Going beyond that, I don’t think it would hurt companies to open source their game if they ever declare bankruptcy or simply not sell the game anymore. Any arguments against doing that?
yogorenapan··on Google: Angular and Wiz Are Merging
As a backend dev that has dabbled in JavaScript (old school), I love Svelte. It makes reactivity so easy while keeping everything more or less optional and vanilla
yogorenapan··on Ask HN: Anyone looking for contributors for their open source projects
What software do you regularly use? I often find bugs I need fixed and open an issue & PR at the same time
yogorenapan··on Flagship Mastodon instance to require AI disclosure; bans AI-only accounts
I really don’t want Cloudflare to take over even more of the web
yogorenapan··on Show HN: Fake or real? Try our AI image detector
It’s actually pretty accurate for the images I had on hand. It only failed once you started giving it artwork rather than photos.

Low quality/distorted images also come out as AI

yogorenapan··on Ask HN: Is Scratch a good tool for teaching coding?
Definitely great at 8-12 years old. Gave me a huge head start when actually getting into coding. A lot of concepts people got stuck with just made sense
yogorenapan··on Russia's air strikes on Ukraine aimed using satellite images from US companies
> much as it did in th WWII.

People tend to forget they were our allies back then

yogorenapan··on Ask HN: What are your oldest "online" accounts still in use?
Although I obviously have older accounts, I’ve pretty much lost all of them except GitHub. Have gone through 5 email providers over the span of its life
yogorenapan··on Ask HN: Do you also marvel at the complexity of everyday objects?
It honestly scares me. Even the most common objects take whole supply chains and years of study to create. Like if you became a sanctioned small country, how do you even survive?
