yla92··on Prometheus 3.0
Same. It's rock solid, low resource usage and good performance. The "single" version mostly just works.

yla92··on Kamal Proxy – A minimal HTTP proxy for zero-downtime deployments
They were actually using Traefik until this "v2.0.0" (pre-release right now) version.

There are some context about why they switched and decided to roll their own, from the PR.

yla92··on Fly.io Infra log: week-by-week record of what the team does
I submitted it. I just stumbled on it while checking out the openings and about LiteFS Cloud today.

I personally liked the way it's done (very transparent and interesting at the same time) and thought HN crowd would be interested in these too ! :D

yla92··on Rust-Written LAVD Kernel Scheduler Shows Promising Results for Linux Gaming
Noob question: Is it something that only beneficial for games or also be beneficial as generic scheduler ?
yla92··on How much faster are the Gnome 46 terminals?
Neat! Would love to see the benchmark to also include Mitchelle Hashimoto's Ghostty terminal when it comes out publicly. (now still under development/polishing stage and in private beta)

yla92··on Linux Crisis Tools
It's still useful in EC2 (or any other VM-based environments) and Docker containers, as long as you can install the necessary packages (if they are not installed by default). Because after all, there are "servers" underneath, even for the serverless apps, I suppose.

It's definitely harder for apps running in Lambda because we may not have access to the underlying OS. In such case, I kind of fallback to using the application level observability tools like Pyroscope (https://pyroscope.io). It doesn't always work for all the cases and have some overheads/set up but it's still better than flying and more useful than the Cloud Provider's provided metrics.

yla92··on Show HN: Open-source x64 and Arm GitHub runners
What I did for work was, getting a Mac Mini and set up multiple self hosted runners in Tmux (very hackish, I know). The builds became faster (and cheaper) because each run no longer had to download the dependencies again.

Of course, hosting myself means I also gotta own the uptime of it..

yla92··on Oh My Zsh
Recently, I moved off from oh-my-zsh after many users, to vanilla zsh with https://starship.rs, mainly due to the loading speed (used https://github.com/romkatv/zsh-bench to measure the speed).

Still wanting to try out fish and hopefully soon!

yla92··on epoll: The API that powers the modern internet (2022)
I am not expert in these but I thought Tornado's ioloop was readable enough for me to learn more event loops. Mostly, it was being implemented in pure Python.

https://github.com/tornadoweb/tornado/blob/branch4.5/tornado...

(Had to be in 4.5 because the newer versions 5.x and 6.x, it's switched to Python's stdlib asyncio)

this seems like an amazing opportunity and just applied it!
yla92··on Why my print didn't output before a segmentation fault
That makes sense. For example, with curl, I have been redirecting the output from stderr to stdout with 2>&1 and grep to filter. Now, I am seeing the dots connected why apps like curl sends the output to stderr!
