ykevinator··on Malcolm Gladwell: How I Rediscovered Religion
This is intellectual weakness. God cannot possibly exist and science fearing people know this. When we redefine what the word "believe" means, we can believe anything that brings comfort. I'm sorry to all smart people who will soberly listen to science, god is not real. No one can logically argue that supernatural is compatible with science. You cannot believe both without redefining what believe means.

ykevinator··on The CDC lost control of the coronavirus pandemic, then the agency disappeared
I hope we do a serious review of the cdc when this is all over. For all the money we give them, they totally failed to "control" the outbreak. It feels like it's devolved into an academic institution and we have enough of those.

ykevinator··on Ask HN: Regreting Not Doing a Startup
I am 50, my advice is don't fall into the trap that its either or. You can get a lot of signal without quitting your job. You can get a lot of work done by a $15/hour stay at home mom remotely. You don't have to risk it all. Once you are making money you can make the jump, or abort if it's not working. Just make sure your spouse is on board so there are no fights. If she is not (no sexism intended, I assume you are a man because women don't typically ask questions like this) then dont lose your marriage over it. That is a very real thing.
ykevinator··on Ask HN: Regreting Not Doing a Startup
Sorry man, I hope you have found peace and sobriety.
ykevinator··on Getting the most out of YubiKeys for your business
Virtually every u2f implementation I've ever seen allows otp as a backup, reducing the security of one to the other. U2f is so much nicer than otp but hardware keys have devolved to being convenient not more secure than otp.
ykevinator··on Tell HN: Triplebyte ignoring account deletion, unsubscribe requests
Why did you delete your account? I'd be interested in knowing why you left. (not affiliated just curious)
