yitchelle··on The story of the first “computer bug” is a pile of lies
The presence of the backspace key has spoilt me. I hardly write anything with a pen and paper these days.
yitchelle··on The story of the first “computer bug” is a pile of lies
Not only that, there is not one correction in that letter. Do they have multiple drafts before writing the final version that is sent?
yitchelle··on I spent a year designing a low profile, minimal mechanical keyboard
Do you have the specs (for the bluetooth use case) on how long a fully charge battery would last before a recharge is needed?
yitchelle··on Email Is Async
In my simple understanding, Synchronous and Asynchronous messaging comes down the sequencing of sender and receiver messages, it is not a matter of timing, right?
yitchelle··on Goat Rental – Hire Goats
Yes, a couple of the trees needed replacing.
yitchelle··on Tell HN: Unpaid home assignments are not ok
There you go, the correction is made. :-)
yitchelle··on Tell HN: Unpaid home assignments are not ok
Alternatively, you could say..."for my time spent after the 1st hour, I will charge you $200/hour. Are we good to proceed"
yitchelle··on Goat Rental – Hire Goats
I guess if we left the goat long enough, it will eat thorough the fence. Then the neighbours garden will also be barren.
yitchelle··on Goat Rental – Hire Goats
It was a progressive school in the country side. I think most of the students are from the local farming community.
yitchelle··on Goat Rental – Hire Goats
Story time - My dad asked the local school which had a goat if he can borrow it for a weekend. It was to tame his backyard. As the backyard was enclosed with no chance of the goat escaping, we left it by itself. The goat was be extremely hungry and ate everything insight including the roots, leaves and bark. By Monday, the backyard is barren and took months recover.

Moral of the story - keep an eye on the goat.

yitchelle··on Ask HN: Where should I move to meet interesting tech people?
Does the border authorities question the high number of entries into the country?
yitchelle··on Life Stats
Even on the simple site like this, even the contentious topic of implementation of dates pops up. :-). The dates are a pain to do well and agreeable to everyone.
yitchelle··on Ask HN: Can you imagine a world where anybody could do any job?
Are we doing the job to better our lives, or to earn the money (or other material) to survive?
yitchelle··on List of Tech company layoffs in Europe
Hmm. Is sifted.eu trying to stir up something here? It is only a small number companies out of thousands of companies. Now if the companies were Addidas, BMW, or Aldi, then we should start to get worried.
yitchelle··on I earned $160k in passive income from writing non-fiction books
Why? It seems writing this is the only which complex thoughts can be formulated and be passed down through the generations.
yitchelle··on Why is HN obsessed with Zettelkasten?
It gives us (me included) a sense of control of our mountain of todos, ideas, thoughts. In reality, the sense of control is imaginary. I have never really can control these things.
yitchelle··on 25+ years of personal knowledge management
I don't know about you, but if I don't use knowledge from 5 years ago, it is unlikely if I will ever use the information even again in my life time. How many of you are in the boat?
yitchelle··on AppleSqueezer GS: A Modern Apple ][ Accelerator

yitchelle··on Ask HN: Is it common for a SW Dev to earn $14/hr?
Developing software for a non-tech company is always to going to be hard as your outputs are not part of their core products. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
yitchelle··on Ask HN: Is it common for a SW Dev to earn $14/hr?
The author of the tweet seems to be from Niagara Falls/Buffalo, NY, USA.
yitchelle··on Ask HN: Is it common for a SW Dev to earn $14/hr?
If you read the stories here on HN, it gives the impression that we work in an industry that pays pretty well and it gives us a good chance for a comfortable life.

Then I come across this tweet where a software developer is earning $14/hr. So, I just want to ask how common are such low paying jobs in tech? Personally, I have not seen such or experience this low level of pay before.

yitchelle··on Cooking for Engineers
Reading through the comments in a steak recipe, I came across this ripper of a comment. :-)

"You shouldn't have called it "cooking ro engineers" - you should've called it "cooking for men"."

yitchelle··on Kodak factory tour: How does Kodak make film? [video]
As an aside, Destin has a really cool podcast "No Dumb Questions". Super interesting topics and engaging conversations for Destin and Matt Whitman.

yitchelle··on Roland 50 Studio
Thanks mate, I took your hint and purposely avoided taking a look. I will wait until I get home. My work productivity says thanks.
yitchelle··on Ask HN: Should I give up and get a job?

...I need to start getting serious here for my family's future. ... I can make great money if I just get a full-time job.

Look after family first is my motto.
yitchelle··on An elaborate con that tricked dozens into working for a fake design agency
I guess the scam is on the folks that took on the jobs and lost money over it. Some of the folks in the story upended their lives over this scam.
yitchelle··on Twitter Problems?
It was down and it keep erroring. I logged out and log back in. Now all good for me. I am in Cologne, Germany.
yitchelle··on Ask HN: What is your “I don't care if this succeeds” project?

Certainly uplifting and interesting reliving the old retro technology back in the day.

yitchelle··on Earth-like planet spotted orbiting Sun’s closest star
I guess the assumption is their life span is similar to that on our planet. If the life span measured in thousand of years, it will be a different story.
yitchelle··on Ask HN: What's it like transitioning from SWE to PM?
Yes, I am happy for the transition.
