yeneek··on Anti-Aging: State of the Art
Red wine contains resveratrol that have anti-aging effect on mice. To get effective dose of resveratrol, you would have to drink unhealthy amount of wine, which beats the purpose. You may google David Sinclair talks, he talks about resveratrol, NMN and metformin.

this issue is solvable with relay server
yeneek··on I've been merging microservices back into the monolith
Disclosure: It's only my opinion, that I developed through trial and error during building ecommerce applications in a small team. Problems that I solved may be different than problems you will encounter.

I aim for the system that will fix itself. So for example, when new product comes to product service, product service stores the product in a strict consistent manner without relying on other services. Other services, which want to know about that new product, polls the product service in regular interval and gets new products. Also you need to make endpoints idempotent.

The good thing is, that when something bad happens, the system data will eventually converge. Sometimes there will be bugs, so you will fix the bug and then wait, until system fix its data. The bad thing is, that the system is only eventually consistent. You will need to track the delay and keep it short.

As adrianmsmith mentioned, its usually better to create monolith when possible.

I hope it was helpful.

yeneek··on Ask HN: About Financial Inequity
I make triple of the average income my country as a software engineer. It makes me feel calmer, because I save most of my income. It's sad that most people have trouble to earn enough. I don't feel bad for earning money, because it took me a lot of time and effort to get to the point I earn this much. As a citizen of post communistic country, I prefer inequality more than equality.
yeneek··on I've been merging microservices back into the monolith
I personally don't like saga pattern. For example when some operation fails, it should be reverted ob every service it went through. But what to do, when that revert fails? It's just matter of time when the system ends up in inconsistent state.
yeneek··on React's UseRef Deep Dive
Fair enough. Still "successful people use it, so it must be good" isn't a valid argument for me.
yeneek··on React's UseRef Deep Dive
A lot of successful people use Cobol too
yeneek··on React's UseRef Deep Dive
Happy that someone other than me sees that too. I predict that companies will start leaving React in 5 years. React will have the same fate as AngularJS and jQuery.

yeneek··on Managing an underperformer who thinks they’re doing great
Sometimes, people are burned out. First thing what manager should do, is to check if the underperformer took some time off. Burnout is a huge productivity killer.
yeneek··on Managing an underperformer who thinks they’re doing great
Switch company may be better, because record of you being an underperformer gets shared between teams.

I see Bohemia, I upvote
yeneek··on Developer Growth
I was full stack until 2020. I choose to do frontend for now, because there isn't much stress in comparison with backend. Also to earn more money you have to specialize.
yeneek··on Developer Growth
Hi. Frontend developer from Czechia here. Market is in your favor, companies hire anybody nowadays. I worked in a outsourcing company that hired smart non-developers (There were math teacher, guy with Ph.D. in philosophy etc..), teached them COBOL and placed them to companies.

Knowing how to build software matters the most. Hiring process usually includes some kind of screening test or homework. Experience matters too, but still they test you to know your stuff.

First development job may be harder to find, but it's not that hard. Also depends where you live. After 3 years of experience finding a job becomes really easy.

yeneek··on Amazon destroys $1.5m of sellers inventory – now homeless
I worked for company that helps sellers with selling on Amazon. I don't know, if the story is true, but it's totally consistent with my experience how Amazon treats sellers.
yeneek··on Amazon destroys $1.5m of sellers inventory – now homeless
Selling on Amazon is really hard. Just one fake product claim from a customer can make your seller account blocked. And because customer is always right, seller has to prove product validity.
yeneek··on James Randi Has Died
I guess Banachek is closest to that. He Randi help him with debunking Peter Poppof
yeneek··on Why software developers might be obsolete by 2030
There will still be a need to give computer a commands or specification. Probably in some kind of human readable structured textual form.
