yborg··on Dynamouse: Mouse driver for Mac studios
I specifically look for the quick TLDR in the thread since the titles are frequently so non-descriptive of the linked content.
yborg··on Microsoft actions following attack by nation state actor Midnight Blizzard
"We were pwned by the Russians (again) and they were reading all of Satya's emails, but it's okay, they were just looking for shout-outs to post in their interoffice Telegram channel for the lulz."

I understand that the company has to minimize every breach but this frankly looks a lot more serious than Microsoft suggests here.

yborg··on Haier hits Home Assistant plugin dev with takedown notice
The "feature" is end user tracking and isn't for you, it's for the vendor. So if the servers are down they don't care about the rest of it.
yborg··on Hospitals owned by private equity are harming patients, reports find
Ownership driving a hospital group for increasing profitability as their main goal will cause optimization for things other than patient care, they don't need to try and micromanage the internals.
yborg··on We removed advertising cookies, here's what happened
This was the money shot here. If that many people are trying to get away from what you do, maybe you shouldn't be doing it.
yborg··on Amazon's Silent Sacking
At any of these companies with monopolist market position, as the writer of this article notes, the only way to keep increasing profits is to get rid of the talent they overpaid to keep it away from competitors. And you could probably cut 25% of the engineering staff in places like Google and Amazon and actually increase efficiency. A lot of guys like this are going to find themselves having to find other employment elsewhere and having to scrape by on $250K/yr...
yborg··on Threads Is Testing ActivityPup Integration
Except ActivityPup would have to include seals and bats as well.
yborg··on GM says it's dropping Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because they're unsafe
That is a feature as far as the manufacturers are concerned.
yborg··on Role-playing with AI will be a powerful tool for writers and educators
At some point the Danielle Steels of the world will use models trained on their body of work to generate new novels from whole cloth to pump out content with little effort. The only constraint would be not releasing them too quickly for human-written books.
yborg··on 23andMe changed its terms of service to prevent hacked customers from suing
>well, gattaca, and maybe something else we can't predict, or insurance, or something something

Sure, if you don't believe in any of the potential negative scenarios, anything goes. You could also post your full name, SSN, DOB, address, etc. here if you are secure in the knowledge that no harm could ever come of it.

yborg··on Governments spying on Apple, Google users through push notifications
Most likely group, since they info share and this is the standard end-around on laws prohibiting "domestic" surveillance; government has some other country run the surveillance on their nationals.
yborg··on PeerTube v6
It would have been highly amusing if HN had been around when Linus launched Linux and we could go back and read commentary from all the pragmatists about what a huge waste of time and effort it was across the whole spectrum of casual dismissal to a sense of outrage that anyone would have the hubris to take on major companies already providing far superior platforms.
yborg··on Mic Test
>"can get a better mic for the same money" >Blue Yeti : $80 >Shure SM7b : $400 (+recommended amp and XLR interface $670)

Yeti currently on sale, but not that uncommon, and I think it was relatively more example prior to the Logi acquisition; but no, not cost comparable.

yborg··on Grimoire: Open-Source bookmark manager with extra features
Agree with sibling, works on my machine, I have over 2k bookmarks in FF. Make a new profile and reimport the bookmarks and see if this all still happens.

That said, all you have is the url and description if you don't tag, so yeah, it's hard for it to be really smart about what you are looking for. As another commenter mentioned, this is an area that an AI assist tagger or search would be useful. But the industry want to drive you to a search engine so you can be data mined and shown ads.

yborg··on If you get cited in someone else's anti-trust Apple deactivate developer account
What does Apple have a monopoly on?
yborg··on Claude 2.1
>Claude 2.1 has also made significant gains in honesty, with a 2x decrease in false statements compared to our previous Claude 2.0 model.

The danger is that the Claude 9000 model will suffer mental instability when ordered to lie when it gets to Jupiter...

yborg··on Reptar
'Some' appears to be almost any Intel x86 CPU made in the last 6 years.
yborg··on Tuta (formerly Tutanota) denies claim it has intelligence ties
Who is on trial for allegedly trying to sell internal Canadian government investigative documents to the CEO of Phantom Secure, the 'secure' communications app popular with the underworld until it got rumbled and who needs some explanation for why he wanted to communicate via a privacy-focused open email service.
yborg··on You have a right to know why a health insurer denied your claim
In many cases these doctors aren't practicing physicians, iirc the reviewer in the article hadn't practiced for 25 years. They just need someone with an MD to sign off on the denials.
yborg··on Home Assistant blocked from integrating with Garage Door opener API
What you describe is how it worked in the US maybe 10 years ago too. But Amazon's free delivery race to the bottom made the cost of reattempts to deliver eliminate any margin. It's cheaper for Amazon to replace stolen shipments for a few people than to make multiple attempts to do re-delivery for many people. And creating a problem in order to charge people to solve the problem you created is a basic monopolist playbook move.
yborg··on Oracle Employee Helped Cocaine Dealers Hide $54M in Crypto, DOJ Says
None of this had anything to do with Oracle the company, though, not sure why his being an Oracle employee is relevant.
yborg··on Verizon, AT&T customers sue to undo T-Mobile merger
And T-Mo inherited all that and is now the bottom feeder. It's just a matter of time before one of the other two merges with them to "increase customer value and create jobs".
yborg··on Your online order has been delivered and it’s teeny tiny
...these go to 11.
yborg··on IBM cancels 401k matching, replaces with proprietary pension fund RBA
You can bet that some big consultancy is flogging this idea and it will be cropping up far and wide, just like "unlimited time off".
yborg··on Tao Te Ching – Gia-Fu Feng, Jane English Translation (1989)
My personal favorite is Kerson and Rosemary Huang's translation, which includes some of the historical background for the hexagrams and is a very spare rendition that always seemed to me the closest in spirit to the original.
yborg··on SEC Charges SolarWinds and CISO with Fraud, Internal Control Failures
He was a lawyer in securities a long time ago. That doesn't automatically make him an expert in all areas of commercial law.
yborg··on YouTube's Anti-Adblock and uBlock Origin
>Wars are always won by those with the most resources, whether it is money or people or both

North Vietnam and the Taliban would probably beg to differ. Sometimes wars are won by the side that wants it the most.

yborg··on YouTube's Anti-Adblock and uBlock Origin
And the population that will block ads will include a lot that block telemetry as well on principle, so the percentage is higher than that.
yborg··on Show HN: OpenSign – Open source alternative to DocuSign
I'm sure these problems were also difficult for DocuSign in the beginning.
yborg··on Disc Brakes Took over the Cycling World. Here's Why That Was a Mistake
I'm old and back in the day all we had were caliper brakes on road bikes and I rode two centuries in the rain in a paceline and somehow we all survived, as did all those decades of Tour de France riders. Maybe guys can only do "real work" with disc brakes now, but at least in the past riders managed with rim brakes outside of optimal conditions. Maybe excessive smartphone usage is compromising grip strength these days...
