yawnr··on How to help a programming student get unstuck
I’m kind of the same way and have always really enjoyed tutoring.
yawnr··on My interview with Steven Levy re. leaking of my Facebook Goodbye post
My question is what constitutes a public post? I feel like that definition is evolving. Is a WhatsApp group with 1k members spreading disinformation still a private message?
yawnr··on Reflecting on Four Years at Databricks
Why did you bring up hiring? His comment doesn’t even mention it. Unless he edited it.
yawnr··on Comparison of Postsurgical Scars Between Vegan and Omnivore Patients
Huge demand for collagen powder as a beverage additive lately though. Could definitely be a real opportunity.
yawnr··on NFTs Are a Dangerous Trap
I’m skeptical about NFTs too but trying to keep an open mind, because at the end of the day, while you or I personally don’t need the 100M to enjoy the impressionist art, you can’t ignore the fact that someone out there is in fact willing to pay that for the original. And that’s kind of the same weird authenticity bragging rights situation.
yawnr··on Coinbase mafia shows how tight a circle holds sway over Bitcoin
Your friend would be the money transmitter in this case and at that scale no one would care, but if he did it with 1000 “friends” then, well yeah. People have gotten arrested and charged for operating on localbitcoins without proper licensing.
yawnr··on Even If It's 'Bonkers,' Poll Finds Many Believe QAnon, Other Conspiracy Theories
Yeah seriously. What a weird false equivalence to try to suggest.
yawnr··on To do politics or not do politics? Tech startups are divided
I don’t think it was about anything, I know exactly what it was about. Thanks though.
yawnr··on To do politics or not do politics? Tech startups are divided
So the issue that is becoming very apparent to me is that people are doing things like denying science, denying people of human rights, saying that everything that they don’t like is fake and calling it a political stance. That’s what “politics” means now unfortunately.

And we can’t really afford not to be involved in politics if that’s what it has devolved into. This isn’t about whether fiscal conservatism works or some foreign policy. We literally just elected people to the House who believe Trump is a savior combatting a Democratic ring of pedophiles who eat children. These people are showing up with assault rifles at places of business (see: Pizza Gate).

I think the most likely scenario here is that people who are pushing for their startups to take a stance are those who believe in science and human rights, and can’t stand to watch as the rest of the country buys into the madness. Because you can be sure that the people peddling this disinformation are absolutely fine with their businesses having a political stance.

See Koch brothers, Hobby Lobby, Chik Fil A, the police with their thin blue line flags and blue lives matter slogan.

If you want to ban talk about political discussion on economic policy from your business, fine, no one cares. But realistically thats not what this is about.

yawnr··on M1 Mac Mini Teardown
Lol what do you mean claimed? The Air is indeed fanless, the Mini and Pro both have fans. None of this is a surprise.
yawnr··on Tunnels in the US cost more than anywhere else
What do you think
yawnr··on Don’t tell people to “Google it.” That’s your job, not theirs (2016)
Wow edgy. You could have also said “today”.

You’re missing the point of the article
yawnr··on Street View of 1940s New York
Very cool!
yawnr··on Epic Games releases "Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite" ad
It’s the same bs that tv networks pull on subscribers when they have disagreements with cable providers over the rates they get paid. They air commercials saying “Verizon is trying to keep you from seeing your favorite shows!!” when they are the ones demanding increases from Verizon et al. Newsflash: neither of the parties are the good guys. It’s all manipulative and a pathetic attempt at portraying themselves as the victim. Meanwhile consumers, the real victims, are constantly getting random price increases forced upon them with no option to go elsewhere. It’s transparent and it’s moronic, and I wish it were different.
yawnr··on Storybook 6.0 your new favourite tool for front-end development
This is if your components are in the app’s codebase itself and not in a shared components library. The workflow there gets a bit messy IMO since you probably need to then maintain an entirely separate RN app just for the storybook in that component library’s codebase, which leads to a decent amount of redundant work when upgrading RN versions.
yawnr··on Storybook 6.0 your new favourite tool for front-end development
We were using it for awhile and it was pretty much a nightmare. Couldn’t use a debugger, hot reloading didn’t work, if an error was thrown you’d have to refresh like 8 times. That being said I think it was v4 or v5. Maybe it’s better now. Eventually I just decided to roll my own for our team.
