yatsyk··on CouchDB 3.0
This server can't prevent authenticated user from uploading huge document of running expensive query.
yatsyk··on CouchDB 3.0
Custom backend means no synchronisation and no advantages over postgres.

Do you propose to create proxy that parses query and estimates complexity? I think this task at least as hard as implementing couchdb myself (actually harder)

Is there any secure open source code with pouchdb/couchdb integrations?

yatsyk··on CouchDB 3.0
CouchDB/PouchDB looks very promising for offline first apps, but I can’t understand how to restrict bad clients. Client potentially could insert document of huge size or execute expensive query and degrade experience of other clients on the same server. Is it any way to prevent this?
yatsyk··on Isomorphic-git v1.0
More or less same arguments as for choosing React Native for any other project: share some or all code on web/android/ios platforms.

The other option could be compiling libgit2 to native code/wasm and use it in RN and web, but it will be harder then just import js-only npm.

yatsyk··on Isomorphic-git v1.0
Thank you! fixed
yatsyk··on Isomorphic-git v1.0
I tried to run it in RN year ago with no luck, filled an issue [1]. Looks like they removed Buffer dependency in 1.0 which was one of the problems.

edit: fix link

yatsyk··on Show HN: I built a website to better compare USB-C hubs found on Amazon
Wow, good place to go while suffering from Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
yatsyk··on Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions?
I would say that it still not born. This is just my speculation knowing resources they have, team and absence of limitations that have competitors.
yatsyk··on Ask HN: A New Decade. Any Predictions?
1. No self-driving cars this decade. Most self-driving car companies go bankrupt

2. AI winter. NN will be used for classification and deepfakes. No self driving and important areas were AI decision could kill or make harm. Military is exception.

3. Tesla will be largest car company.

4. Daily volume of GRAM transaction will be more than all other cryptocurrencies combined. Most of smart-contracts will be created for for telegram open network. Bitcoin will be used for wealth accumulation and at the end of decade will cost about the same as today ±10k usd.

5. No mainstream VR,AR etc. it will be used in niches like education, gaming and porn. This technologies will not dominate in these niches.

6. iPhone will look like current model but may be with more cameras.

7. China economy will be in depression next decade.

8. Russia collapses like Soviet Union, or may loose some territories.

9. US will be the largest economy but not with wide margin as most of the new business will hide from US taxes and regulation in offshores and crypto.

10. Search will be cash cow for google, but users will use search less and less during decade. Video monopoly will be more important for google at the end of decade.

11. Most content producers will try to escape youtube monopoly.

12. Most new code will run on webassemby runtime

13. Decriminalization of cannabis around the western world. Decriminalization of psychedelics in a few countries.

14. Few huge leaks of personal content and data. People will care less about privacy. Huge dirty secrets will be leaked but nobody care in a week.

15. More populist elected around the world.

16. Sharing economy will dominate all niches.

17. Multiple people rating providers appear around the world.

yatsyk··on Rebuilding My Personal Infrastructure With Alpine Linux and Docker
VMs and containers have pros and cons. Not sure what do you mean by freedom. If I need secure isolation or non-linux guest I would choose VM, but now I use containers mostly because lightness, speed, registry and snapshots.
yatsyk··on The Rise of Immer in React
I do not use Immer and Immutable together. I use Immutable mostly as I want to have custom types. I think I'll use Immer most of the time after implementing api like [1]

[1] https://github.com/mweststrate/immer/issues/202

yatsyk··on The Rise of Immer in React
Main issue with immer is a lack of custom types support (like Record in immutable.js)
yatsyk··on Ask HN: What is the best way to find remote full time work?
This repo https://github.com/lukasz-madon/awesome-remote-job contains plenty of resources
yatsyk··on Ask HN: What, if anything, do you listen to while coding?

yatsyk··on The worst distractions are the ones we love
Sometimes moment when you need to start something and getting fun is not at the same time. These events could be separated in time by years or seconds and you deleay it anyway. Trivial example: I know that I'll feel fantastic after cold shower, it's just impossible for me to be depressed after it, but most of the time I have different reasons why I'm not doing it this time. When the fun is few years away it's event harder.

But yes, it's good idea to ask yourself is it actually fun for you.

yatsyk··on Ask HN: Where can I find high-end stock images for a website?
I have same question but for not processed images. You can find high quality but highly shopped images on sites like unsplash or low quality not processed images on flickr creative commons search.

But it's very hard to find hight quality images without film effects or other filters.

yatsyk··on VS Code uses 13% CPU when idle due to blinking cursor rendering
> Wouldn't it be better to make native application

Actually there are such editors. I use vim instead of vscode or atom. And I think my installation of vim is slower then vscode because of some plugin that I've not found yet.

Applications like vscode very useful because they help to find performance and other bugs in browsers. Same way as browser improved when gmail and sites like this appeared.

I would support appearance of IDEs, large games, VR, image and video editors in browsers as they help improve web platform.

If you don't like it, just use other option. It could be faster, but may be not. Not sure that vscode is slower then visual studio for most tasks.

yatsyk··on Ask HN: What books fundamentally changed the way you think about the world?
The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins
yatsyk··on Show HN: Target almost all platforms at once with react native
Few questions:

Status of this project. Can I use it for production?

What are the differences from other starter kits like Este, which also could be used for building react-native and react apps.

yatsyk··on Show HN: Publish a Markdown website in 5 minutes
Thank you for technical details!

Why do you use braintree but not use namecheap for everything? Avoiding lock-in or some technical reasons?

yatsyk··on Unsplash – Beautiful photos free to use under the Unsplash License
Great resource.

Can somebody recommend similar resource with unprocessed images? Most photos toned or converted to black-and-white.

yatsyk··on One Professional Russian Troll Tells All
> I don't doubt that there are paid people who spam forums but just because someone is voicing their opinion in favor of Russian official stance it doesn't mean automatic paid shill.

This article is just about these paid people and doesn't question that there are people with pro-Russian government position. But in this case bandwagon effect[1] and propaganda take major role.

yatsyk··on Breaking Half of the Telegram Contest
This is bad advice. If your friends was happy with WhatsApp they don't care much what it the most secure messenger but probably want to use it on iOS or chat with friends with iPhones.
yatsyk··on Russia Blocks Access to Major Independent News Sites
> Ukraine government outlawing access to any Russian language news a few days ago

Filter content by Content-language header? :)

> New Kiev government has banned national broadcasts in this language

This statement is also wrong. There is a lot of channels in Russian language in Ukraine.

yatsyk··on Telegram protocol defeated. Authors are going to modify crypto-algorithm
> I didn't say TextSecure is completely safe.

Yes you do. "TextSecure completely safe app" was copied from your message before you or someone else edited it. I've not typed it but copied exact phrase from your message.

yatsyk··on Telegram protocol defeated. Authors are going to modify crypto-algorithm
At first my statement is still valid even after Durov decided to pay for bug report. This bug report has no connection with extracting plain message I've written.

Apart from that I can't check Durov's posts that from the future. My post was written before Durov's announcement.
