yanhangyhy··on Why isn't the U.S. better at soccer?
we have a idiom/joke to describe this: "美中不足" ( which origins means a flaw within beauty). but 美 also means America 中 also means China and 不 = no/not 足=foot/soccer..so Neither country is very good at football (soccer). of course china sucks more on this
yanhangyhy··on The Pentagon is running an AI propaganda mill targeting Latin America
If the American system is so good, why does it always need to be promoted in such strange ways? LA people should be so eager to be pro-America
yanhangyhy··on Norway's 2 petabytes of Huawei flash storage and LLM training

yanhangyhy··on Qian Xuesen: The missile genius America lost and China gained (2025)
I don't think he is a communist, he just believe in people like Mao and he's party.

The other thing is,as a Chinese person, apart from a very small minority who are receptive to Western propaganda and hold anti-Han/chinese/china sentiments, the vast majority will eventually embrace their strong sense of nationalism.

This also applies to Chen-Ning Yang.

yanhangyhy··on The US is winning the AI race where it matters most: commercialization
It sounds convincing because almost everything in the article is technically correct. But this mindset is problematic.

AI is not some divine creation. It is built by humans. History has repeatedly shown that China is able to catch up, and often surpass others in the end.

The article never really explains why AI is supposedly so unique that it guarantees the United States will inevitably win.

yanhangyhy··on Show HN: Countries where you can leave your MacBook at a random coffee shop
china 43%.. LOL
yanhangyhy··on DeepSeek v4
yeah..
yanhangyhy··on DeepSeek v4
somehow i canot open the link. but in their chinese version's release article, in the end ,there is a quote from xunzi(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xunzi_(philosopher))

"Not seduced by praise, not terrified by slander; following the Way in one's conduct, and rectifying oneself with dignity." (不诱于誉,不恐于诽,率道而行,端然正己)

(It is mainly used to express the way a Confucian gentleman conducts himself in the world. It reminds me of an interview I once watched with an American politician, who said that, at its core, China is still governed through a Confucian meritocratic elite system. It seems some things have never really changed.

In some respects, Liang Wenfeng can be compared to Linux. The political parallel here is that the advantages of rational authoritarianism are often overlooked because of the constraints imposed by modern democratic systems. )

yanhangyhy··on The insider trading suspicions looming over Trump's presidency
Can anyone tell me why a great democratic system is unable to prevent this kind of problem? Even when it happens, there seem to be no effective measures to deal with it.
yanhangyhy··on Ask HN: Who is using OpenClaw?
there is a huge push in china and (tencent). but the main purpose is for the token market, to bring more users as a consumer of tokens. but i dont see any useful outcome from this yet.

tencent is anxiety about it's progress about AI, as Alibaba and ByteDance is iterated much faster. so before it has strcit rules for QQ/Wechat( has 1 billon + users) for AI bot , but now it's open to openclaw (some tencent version i guess).

but it's still a toy for most people.

yanhangyhy··on Why the US Navy won't blast the Iranians and 'open' Strait of Hormuz

yanhangyhy··on OpenAI closes funding round at an $852B valuation
its a super app.

I think the core issue isn’t what underlying technology is used, but rather the service providers. They package their services into mobile apps or WeChat mini programs, and restrict functionality on browsers. For many ordinary people, this provides convenience, but for those who care more about privacy, it’s quite problematic.

WeChat in China covers almost every aspect of life. Even someone like me, who doesn’t want to use it often, can’t avoid it. Some restaurants’ online ordering systems only support scanning via WeChat—that is, WeChat mini programs. People can pay utility bills, call taxis, shop, and make financial investments all within WeChat. Alipay offers similar functions as well.

WeChat is also one of the largest content platforms in China, similar to Medium. Countless creators set up subscription accounts on WeChat and gain more users through readers’ sharing and reposting. At the same time, government information is often released through the WeChat platform.

yanhangyhy··on Midnight train from GA: A view of America from the tracks as airports struggle
I highly recommend everyone read “The Grass Frontier”. It provides a detailed account of the development of American suburbanization and its integration with the automobile industry. (and why cars > trains after that)

The United States is a very unique case—its capitalist development progressed faster than in other countries. Although many industries today are controlled by oligarchs and politicians and no longer serve the public interest, this history remains distinctive and worth remembering.

yanhangyhy··on DOOM Over DNS
Perhaps one day in the future, DOOM will become one of the symbols of human civilization—both in contrast to robots and in contrast to extraterrestrials.
yanhangyhy··on Why Sora Failed: $15M/day inference cost vs. $2.1M lifetime revenue

yanhangyhy··on Miscellanea: The War in Iran
i just remeber seeing a Trump video today and he is saying that 'china get 90% of its oil from iran..stuff'

it's a good selling point. i dont believe leaders cannot understand the diff between 'iran's 90% oil goes to china' and 'china get 90% ot its oil from Iran', but i'm sure some people will buy it

yanhangyhy··on China is mass-producing hypersonic missiles for $99,000
https://www.reddit.com/r/aviation/comments/1p64kki/reporter_...

It reminds me of a funny piece of news. A noodle manufacturer in China, for some reason—maybe to make more money—secretly produced quite a number of small aircraft and even managed to sell many of them.

yanhangyhy··on Why did the chicken cross the road?
just a note: the man didn't die, they didn't kill him (i'm not supporting the tank side)
