yangtheman··on Carol Bartz Out at Yahoo; CFO Interim CEO
I wonder if Yahoo! needs old Jerry Yang (the one with fire in his belly in his early days) back as Twitter did with Jack Dorsey.
yangtheman··on Google Buys Motorola For $12.5 Billion
I read the responses, and I felt exactly the same way. The news has been shared with the partners beforehand and all PR responses have been choreographed. I don't know what they would do exactly, though, since Android is the best mobile OS choice they have. Can't touch IOS. Windows Mobile sucks. Symbian is going away. Not an easy place to be.
yangtheman··on Everyone sucks at interviewing. Everyone.
For anyone looking for a job immediately (as I am), I don't think s/he has time to do multiple 3-months projects. I do believe current interview process is broken, and interview results are not indicative of job performance. I think that's why referrals work the best. Also, although much shorter, weekend hackathons are good ways to gauge working chemistry.
yangtheman··on Ask HN: Fixing the recruiter industry
Folks at Hacker Dojo have been discussing holding a reverse job fair, where hackers who are in the job market come in with their craft (live demo, code samples and whatnot) and interact with other engineers or hiring managers who can recognize their mad skills and refer internally, decide who to bring in for further interview or hire someone on the spot!

It's not scalable, but as I see more and more co-working spaces sprout up in many places, this could be ONE way of solving the hiring/recruiting problem for hackers.

yangtheman··on Ask HN: Startups founded by MBAs?
I was actually more interested in high-tech startups. And, yeah, I think the ratio of successful startups founded by MBAs and those by engineers would be quite interesting. My guess is that it'd heavily lean towards engineers. "Success" could also be somewhat subjective.

I think only Scott held MBA degree when SUN was founded. I am not sure if I'd call Extreme Networks a success.... 3Com had its high, but now it's limping....

yangtheman··on Ask HN: Startups in DC?
I've lived in DC suburb, tried a startup, but had a major problem finding like-minded entrepreneurs in the area. There are many high-tech folks there, but they don't want to take any risks starting or joining a startup. I have moved to the Silicon Valley in 2007 (used to be in SV from 2000 to 2004), and every other person I meet wants to do something on their own. The drive, desire, and willingness of people are just different between two regions.

I found this which might help.... http://techcocktail.com/home/

yangtheman··on Y Combinator for non-techies
Don't know about this one... Most tech startups were started out by techies.

I'd say it could work for non-technical startups.
