yamalight··on Ask HN: What is the best alternative to Angular JavaScript framework?
We've decided to go with React + Flux. Using Flux and CommonJS (since react plays well with it) allowed us to split all our code into small npm modules that do one and only one thing. Never had easier time managing client-side app code and a bunch of collaborating developers.
yamalight··on Ask HN: Real world examples of graph db usage?
1. dbpedia spotlight for example

2. as it usually happens, it completely depends on use case

3. most likely there will be, big data uses graph dbs pretty heavily as far as I know

yamalight··on Vegetarian Diets and Mental Health
Whenever I see papers like this, the infamous "Global average temperature vs. number of pirates" chart almost always comes to my mind xD
yamalight··on Vegetarian Diets and Mental Health
Yeah, author does mentions that the study doesn't answers those questions. Still, I find the fact of writing a whole post based on one point, from the paper that seems to be pretty bad at specifically this point, to be disturbing (and sadly quite representative of modern journalism/blogging scene).
yamalight··on Vegetarian Diets and Mental Health
they even state so in the "limitations" part. I wonder who reviewed this paper? If that's their "limitation" I don't really see any benefits in their research (well, I am quite far from that area and might not get the whole picture).
yamalight··on Vegetarian Diets and Mental Health
As someone who never ate any meat or fish during the life and feels perfectly fine, stuff like this always makes me giggle. And I just love to see how people take only one specific point out of article and exploit it ignoring everything else. Including very important statement: "no statements can be made whether the poorer health in vegetarians in our study is caused by their dietary habit or if they consume this form of diet due to their poorer health status". So, yeah..
yamalight··on Poll: What database does your company/you use?
Virtuoso Open Source
yamalight··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired?
Any location, Relocation, Full Time

Stack: JS (node & client-side), Python, PHP, C# (.Net, Xamarin), ObjC, Java, Semantic Web - fullstack + mobile stuff, plus some experience in devops

Resume, Contact: http://codezen.ru

Would love to work on something new and awesome in a new and awesome country. Exact topic doesn't matter as much as the product / idea and team. I can offer 10+ years of experience in webdev and 4+ in mobile. Have experience of building stuff from idea to release (including 3 startups).

yamalight··on Poll: Do you work at a startup?
Failed last 3 attempts. Slowly starting 4th one. This time as a research project spin-off.
yamalight··on Poll: Do you download copyrighted media illegally?
I like to try before buying anything, and most of the times downloading is the only way to try something.

>> "It disturbs the body’s natural energy field"

Wait, what? Body's energy field? Seriously?

yamalight··on Probably hardest game you ever play
space chem is way harder (and easier to understand at the beginning), imo
yamalight··on Polycraft - A WebGL 3D tower defence game
well, it could've looked like this, I don't see why not. I was speking more about poly count, rather than textures and their quality. I think they just didn't cared/had time (or artists) to do pretty textures.
yamalight··on Polycraft - A WebGL 3D tower defence game
pretty impressive visuals. it seems like running something like Torchlight in browser will be pretty simple soon enough.

the game itself is still just another boring f2p cow clicker though :\

yamalight··on Forcing Microsoft to reverse DRM will harm the games industry
And never will be, more to the point. Trying to restrict your customers in how they can use the product is never a good thing.
yamalight··on Forcing Microsoft to reverse DRM will harm the games industry
steam has offline mode in which it doesn't even tries to go online.
yamalight··on Poll: Will you be changing how you manage your data after the NSA scandal?
well, the rule is as simple as it was for years - if it's online, it's not private anymore. be it hackers or governments - someone potentially can get hands on any of your stuff online.
yamalight··on Show HN: A Kick-ass Google reader replacement
sooo, my russian rss feeds are completely broken. no unicode support?
yamalight··on PhD vs Startup
Forgot to add that this way works especially well, when you startup and PhD are in the same area.
yamalight··on PhD vs Startup
It's also possible to do both. It's a bit harder than just one a time, but possible
yamalight··on Google Glass hands-on: Not a good device for consumers
It is so professional and insightful to discuss a product that's not even finalized yet. Journalism ftw!
yamalight··on Meet Gabe Newell, Microsoft’s next CEO
Why would Valve do this? Don't see any reason at all. Judging from interviews, Gabe loves games. Why the hell would he want to leave them for software & enterprise? Doesn't makes any sense to me.
yamalight··on With Google Reader gone, is Google Scholar next?
Hm. That's quite sad. It does much better job with SemWeb conferences. Though small ones are still not there, yeah. Hopefully they'll improve :)
yamalight··on With Google Reader gone, is Google Scholar next?
Hm.. That's curious. Works pretty much fine for SemWeb stuff
yamalight··on With Google Reader gone, is Google Scholar next?
Microsoft Academic Search is quite much better anyways
yamalight··on You don't need a UX specialist
Then you also don't need designers - you can just use common sense of taste instead! Easy-peasy!
yamalight··on Ask HN: If you had 5 years of uninterrupted time, what would you build and why?
A game. Because I love games :)
