xytop··on Livecoding.tv (YC S15) Is Twitch.tv for Coding
I'm wondering if there are people who are streaming their closed source code..that might be against their company's privacy agreement. So in theory majority of streams should be about opensource projects.
xytop··on Ask HN: Does a company CTO need to be a coder?
Not necessarily. In small companies you'll need to code whereas in big companies you'd just manage staff.
xytop··on Ask HN: How much should I be paid an hour? (Australia, Contract FED)
No, they're flexible here.. they charge as much as they can from a client. So, from some they charge $80/h as you say, but some of them pay just $45/h. Toptal's lowest rate for companies is $40/h
xytop··on Ask HN: How much should I be paid an hour? (Australia, Contract FED)
Yeah full time, but consider it a net salary. I dont pay fees.
xytop··on Ask HN: How much should I be paid an hour? (Australia, Contract FED)
Yeah, im working full-time, but remotely. Company is based in UK and im living in Moldova. Although rate is pretty good for Moldova (life here is very cheap) I still need more and work part-time at Toptal for $30/h.. so constantly overworking to get to the better living. I have a wife and 2 children, soon 3rd one will born and I want to start building a house and I cant say I have enough money for this but family requires so. I/family spend about $1500-$2000 a month for current needs, like food, clothing etc.. then we usually have 1-2 trips a year to rest somewhere. And after all I have about $5-$10k a year in savings. To build a house I need to have about $120-$150k. Which will be in 10 years in best case. Also to add here, I don't pay fees to government, working unofficially because again I dont want to lose any money there (like about 20%) that maybe risky but most of people in my area work like that.

Oh guys.. I'm a senior web developer (working on a leading position in a company which runs 3 startups), I speak natively Rails, PHP.. fluent in SQL and still i get..

$25/h..

I'm in Europe though.. but when I look at your numbers I want to cry.

That's very a lot to my taste.

Edit: did calculations.. even $24/h ($46800/year)

xytop··on Show HN: Universal Pause Button
I've added a pull request which reduces nesting a bit: https://github.com/ryanries/UniversalPauseButton/pull/2
xytop··on Show HN: Startup resources
Awesome, guys! Would be good to have comments at bottom of service description so that people could add something there, maybe you consider to add Disquss?
xytop··on Show HN: Re-innovate the resume to the modern digital age
Looks awesome. Looking for more templates! A "feature" I found: if you click Preview on an unsaved resume - you lose everything :( and no way to restore your entered data

Also, by mistake clicked on "minus" in Work History and all my lovely description got lost :( You should really consider to feed your code with confirmations

xytop··on RuboCop – A Ruby static code analyzer
Is not it a standard yet? That's a well known tool used by thousands of projects..
xytop··on Hello, World
What a waste of good domain name..
xytop··on Bought two domains yesterday: Facebook-image.com and Facebook-images.com
Under http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anticybersquatting_Consumer_Pro...

"The ACPA does not prevent the fair use of trademarks or any use protected by the First Amendment, which includes gripe sites"

xytop··on Bought two domains yesterday: Facebook-image.com and Facebook-images.com
If it's again law to use domains with trademarks in name - then why do domain registrators allow their registering?
xytop··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (June 2014)
Work for freelancers and freelancers for companies: http://www.toptal.com/?ref=10185
xytop··on Show HN: Blogshare
Guys, have a look at source code of its pages :)

191 script inclusion.. that's the record in my memory.. sick guys..

And you probably paid many thousands $$ for this..

xytop··on Show HN: Endless Domains – Domain suggestion tool for new gTLDs
I dont understand how domains appear.. So I entered a word `resume` - no relevant domains popped up..
xytop··on Show HN: Recent HN startups on one page. Autoupdated
Wrote this because HN is updating very frequently and I love to check for new startups and services.. they bring me fresh ideas :)
xytop··on Show HN: Latest Start-UPs posted On HN
From the whole HN links mess, most interested are startups. I created this page to not miss a single startup link posted on HN :)
xytop··on Show HN: We open sourced our social website (built with Play) and mobile apps
In modern PHP frameworks (Zend, Laravel..) there are usually no dependencies at all in classes :)

Thanks to autoloading

Guys,

you had to hide your gmail account user/pass

had to hide facebook keys

twitter keys

application secret..

I just successfully authorized on gmail with your account and can read lots of mails, responses.. not saying that I can send emails on your behalf..

51 lines for imports and 45 lines for code..

that's all about java..

xytop··on Show HN: Intelligent news summaries
Not bad, but you should hire a good ui designer.. this all is a pain. Also, when I look at item summary (http://klipperapp.com/#item=2b6701a481a877ee59abc40cfb9f9f61) - there are no breaks and paragraphs.. Very hard to read.

Other thing is speed. I guess that you're fetching feeds for every user request. You should think about caching and return precached results only or server will die with big amount of visitors.

xytop··on Show HN: Quaderno.io – Invoicing for Stripe
You should think about price per invoice generated. For small site it can be expensive to spend 24$ each month if they have just few customers. From other side, big services which handle hundreds of thousands of customers will be very happy with 48$ but I doubt that you will be happy with such client :)
xytop··on Show HN: Quaderno.io – Invoicing for Stripe
But this is called 'receipt' :)
xytop··on Ask HN: Idea Sunday
Search on Wikipedia? Or what sort of facts&knowledge?
xytop··on Ask HN: What in Digital Ocean's business plan convinced top VCs to invest?
I dont think they are going against listed giants. Giants offer too much. Im still losing myself in amazon's services and pricing model, they are difficult to understand and entrance level is relatively high.. DO - fixed price, minimalistic newbie-type interface where you can relax and just do your things with ease.
xytop··on HTML is almost 100% responsive out of the box
It's shame that HN, a technical community, still doesn't have a good responsive design.. and even design at all.. I'm always bit confused when viewing the site :(
xytop··on Rails with no JS framework
No one uses ember and angular for "hello world"s.. Also "no JS framework" is a lie. You're using jQuery and few other libs.
xytop··on Brainfuck in 40 lines of Clojure
even on C it is much less lines.
