xylophile··on IBM to cut about 3,900 workers while still hiring in ‘higher growth’ areas
You're spot on about simplicity, and it's the reason AWS may not remain the top cloud provider for much longer. There is no effort to implement any sort of consistency across their famed two-pizza teams -- that wouldn't be "Day one". So each service has its own IAM quirks, making basic security at scale a nightmare, and in some cases impossible.

Azure policies are comparatively a breeze, making it the smart and increasingly obvious choice for any regulated (read: large) corporation.

xylophile··on Netflix's New Chapter
Switching cloud providers at Netflix's scale is an enormous multi-year technical undertaking, plus they would be exposed to the risk of two cloud providers instead of one while in transition, plus there are a lot of unknowns in switching providers at that scale which have all been ironed out over the years at AWS, and which could negatively impact customer perception of their product. Plus, as one of the showcase examples of cloud computing success that AWS loves to refer to, I'm sure that Netflix has some sweetheart deals that are difficult to compete with. It would take many many years for "dollars diverted from our competitor" to come close to "dollars spent executing the transition", even with the assumption that a successful transition is possible.

Another bit of recommended reading is The Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus.

I had read Frankl years prior, and while he helped me thoroughly understand the concept of meaning and the immense value of it, he didn't help me find it when I needed it. All of his suggested paths felt a bit wishful or self-deceptive. Absurdism was the only conversation that felt like it was grappling with the problem directly and unadorned.
