xmichael909··on Suckless.org: software that sucks less
Yah, I don't know, DWM looks like it kinda sucks imho...
xmichael909··on OpenAI O3-Mini
So can I ditch the $200 a month o1 pro account, and go back to the $20 account with 03-mini?
xmichael909··on New Tesla Model Y
yah, tesla sucks ... the faster they go away the better
xmichael909··on TiDB – cloud-native, distributed SQL database written in Go
Same as before, excellent when you little little data and limited transactions. Once things get big and you lose sync, everything goes to shit.
xmichael909··on My son (9 yrs old) used plain JavaScript to make a game, and wants your feedback
Excellent, but I keep dying!!!
xmichael909··on OpenWrt One router officially launched

xmichael909··on OpenAI Pleads It Can't Make Money Without Using Copyrighted Materials for Free
Somewhere else in this thread, an example of given. An LLM is trained using all of Frank Miller's copywritted material (he makes comics books). A user then comes along to the trained LLM and says make a comic book that looks like Frank Miller's comic books, and the user then sell the newly created comic book for profit. Should Frank Miller not get something?
xmichael909··on Qt/.NET – Using QML in a .NET WPF Application
Good point, XAML does kinda blow. I miss Visual Basic (;
xmichael909··on Qt/.NET – Using QML in a .NET WPF Application
This would be great! I'm actually a bit surprised they've not done this sooner given that it "seems to dumb old me" like a fairly easy thing to add. Full QT support in .NET would be a hit, but I could be wrong since Avalonia and Uno platform have both reached fairly mature levels.
xmichael909··on Clojure Desktop UI Framework
I couldn't agree more, and would even say more that Windows is just such a mess. Often even new windows programs look like they are from the days of Windows 98.
xmichael909··on Goldman on Generative AI: doesn't justify costs or solve complex problems [pdf]
This interview by Adam Conover, really is a wonderful discussion on the topic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8ByoAt5gCA I was pretty amazed with GPT when it came up, but increasingly find it makes to many mistakes. I full use it as a tool in writing code, but it needs to be treated as Intellisense plus, or something to that affect, not something that will handle complex tasks. GPT and Claude make many mistakes and unless they can solve it from completely making up stuff (which I don't think they can) will not advance much more beyond waht they currently are.
xmichael909··on BTFS: BitTorrent Filesystem
No security at all?
xmichael909··on Rewrite the VP9 codec library in Rust
if only there were a standalone player for linux, osx or windows...
xmichael909··on JetBrains IDE new Terminal Interface
Yes! I just responded before I saw this comment. Exactly this! This is so typical of jetbrains, rather than fix a bug they created something that will take weeks to learn, when really we just want our own console that we already know.
xmichael909··on JetBrains IDE new Terminal Interface
typical Jetbrains, reinventing something, when they could have just enabled linewrap...
xmichael909··on AvaloniaUI: Create Multi-Platform Apps with .NET
Yes, I so wish I had gone with Avalonia 3 years ago. I now have a Xamarin.Forms app that is at the end of life, and MAUI media player options are dismal.
xmichael909··on Quickemu: Quickly run optimised Windows, macOS and Linux virtual machines
I just wish it had a web interface option, but I guess there is always proxmox.
xmichael909··on Accelerating Generative AI with PyTorch II: GPT, Fast
Holy hotdogs, this look amazing. So ahh. I'll jump right to it - where can I run this online without having to do a bunch of work setting it up? I have several python projects that could take advantage of this! (;
xmichael909··on Blocked by Cloudflare
Cloudflare sucks, plain and simple, no idea why anyone uses it. So many better alternatives.
xmichael909··on Stalwart All-in-One Mail Server (IMAP, JMAP, SMTP)
Thanks, this looks great, I hope to see a turnkey linux VM of it one day!
