xgkickt··on Hunyuan3D 2.0 – High-Resolution 3D Assets Generation
Any user-generated content system suffers from what we call “the penis problem”.

The trademark/copyright issues of making that both a reality and an income stream are as yet unsolved.

Working towards getting the Canada European-Union Comprehensive Trade Agreement (CETA) ratified perhaps?
xgkickt··on Ask HN: Programmers who don't use autocomplete/LSP, how do you do it?
I have to use VS for work and Intellisense can be so annoying. Too slow (I've already completed the word), or unhelpful. Example: Accessing elements in a 3d vector, having already typed "var." it pops up with the options, x, y, or z, every time. It's not saving me any keypresses, especially after I've already accessed some elements so I know the members of the struct. Also, how about matching to variables or types from the local scope outwards rather than offer something in a system header not present in any preceding code.

So I have it disabled and just search for things (another thing VS can go complete blank on), keeping the relevant file open in another window for reference, which means I also get to read all the comments in the code before using it.

Leeches.
xgkickt··on Intel lost the Sony Playstation business to AMD
There are still manual optimizations that can be done (non-temporal writes where appropriate for example), but nothing like the painstaking removal of Load-Hit-Stores and cache control of the 360/PS3 era.
xgkickt··on Show HN: 789-Zip – A native macOS app for 7-Zip
Is there any other MacOS archival app that lets one look at the contents before extracting (like WinRAR, say) without resorting to the terminal?
xgkickt··on Playstation 2 GS emulation – the final frontier of Vulkan compute emulation
My favorite part of the GS was the sheer insanity of the bus, 2560 bits wide in total with a clever split on the cache. The PS3 felt like a step down in some ways, blending especially.

Not sure what you mean. The entire system was available to everyone day 1 through the manuals. The introduction of the VLC VU assembler made VU development easier (single instruction stream, automatic register allocation). PATH3 texture uploads maybe?
xgkickt··on How the SNES Graphics System Works
Maybe I'm just old, but the same information that a lot of blogs and youtube videos show (though not Fabien's series above) and more can be grokked by scanning the development docs you can find on archive.org.

xgkickt··on Anyone else lurk and feel like they understand nothing?
Games are quite simple really (read input, move, draw, beep, repeat). Too many get caught up on The Right Way to do things, but realistically all that matters is what the user sees and hears, how you get there is inconsequential. Making _something_ is an achievement in itself.

I’d like to see how this effect from Sildenafil compares to increased NO levels from eating beets.

xgkickt··on Intel undercut a standards body to give us the PCI connector
The Performance Analyzer version of the PlayStation development board took up 3 ISA slots. Once PCI slots started to outnumber ISA slots we struggled to find motherboards for them.

xgkickt··on My Sony HB-F1XV
I don't know, get out of retail hardware and potentially increase market share by allowing manufacturers to tailor devices to their respective markets? I'd just like to see more variety tbh (look at the plethora of handheld PCs), brought with a heavy dose of nostalgia for the home computer days.
xgkickt··on My Sony HB-F1XV
I'd like to see Microsoft turn the xbox into a new MSX. Define a min spec, provide the OS and infrastructure, and let others build them.

Try alternating between water and beer. You’ll drink half as much, and at a better pace.
xgkickt··on Small reactors don't add up as a viable energy source
For Edmonton & Calgary at least, which house the majority of Alberta’s population, such infrastructure would’ve meant better planning for growth, reducing the low-density sprawl we see today.
xgkickt··on Small reactors don't add up as a viable energy source
I can’t understand why, with winters known to be how they are, there is no district heating. If that infrastructure had been in place, a transition to carbon-less sources of heat could be well underway.

(From a game developer’s perspective) The SH series was great. While they still live on in ARM’s Thumb licensing I can’t help feeling they would still be relevant with today’s compilers.
