xer0x··on Stable Code 3B: Coding on the Edge
+1 yes, for a service using network caching like using Cloudflare. I would've referred to their CDN as the Edge of our network.
xer0x··on 9 years of Apple text editor solo dev
Amazing story!
xer0x··on Brickception
Neat! I didn't know this was possible!
xer0x··on Scientists succeed in growing dolomite in the lab
Who is he?
xer0x··on Discouraging the use of web application firewalls
Awesome! I feel so much better about using this to pass an audit.
xer0x··on Show HN: Classic Video Poker
This is great! Thanks for sharing! I've been curious about Godot too.
xer0x··on Ask HN: Why did Python win?
Good timing, our company is in the midst of migrating from Go and JS over to Python. I'm struggling with this. Yet, most developers feel they will be happier writing Python for our web application.

I don't know why Python has outshined its contemporaries like Perl, PHP, Java and Ruby. It has done a great job, and there is probably much to be admired.

xer0x··on Naomi Wu and the Silence That Speaks Volumes
Thank you for sharing this troubling news.
xer0x··on Sourcegraph is no longer open source
Sourcegraph explanation for the change: https://github.com/sourcegraph/sourcegraph/issues/53528#issu...
xer0x··on Should you use Jest as a testing library? (2022)
Vitest may not be a good drop in replacement either. It uses Workers for multi-threading via Tinypool. For us, we use the AWS SDK and the binaries in it would cause Vitest to crash. After wasting a lot of time, we had to retreat back to Jest.

I really like Vitest, and it's a great fit for lots of projects. I'm a bit sad it wasn't for ours.

xer0x··on AWS us-east-1 down
"Degraded performance" -- ha! Our Lambdas have been 100% down for an hour!
xer0x··on British Columbia's New Powers to Silence Dissenting Physicians
Can you trust anything? This article is odd.
xer0x··on Kim Jung Gi has died
Amazing! I only just discovered his work. It's sad, yet inspiring to see how many were touched by his art.
xer0x··on You can't buy a Raspberry Pi right now
I've been waiting 6 months!!
xer0x··on CS 168: The Modern Algorithmic Toolbox
This seems like a great course. What level is it? Is this a first year course at Stanford?
xer0x··on Achieving an open-source implementation of Apple Code Signing and notarization
I came here to whine about Apple Code signing, and how this seems like a terrible thing to reproduce, until I realized this breaks free of Apple, and is hopefully much more sane! Well done!
xer0x··on Show HN: Monolith – A stylish and functional computer frame
I love these open air style designs. It's reminds me of Yuel Beast's Motif Monument too. https://yuelbeast.com/motif-monument
xer0x··on Ask HN: How long until Google charges for private Gmail accounts?
Aren't they already? At the top of my inbox is a message informing me that I'm almost out of space. My infinitely expanding mailbox limit from Google has stopped expanding. A good things come to an end.
xer0x··on Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the Emerging Variants
I've been ignoring the weed freaks spouting off about this. Great to see they were talking about something sorta science based at least.
xer0x··on Leetcode has taught me that I'm a bad engineer
+1 thanks for sharing your rant. I totally agree! I'm at about 18 YoE, and these Leetcode challenges are a major hurtle to pass. I can either study Leetcode problems, or study how to be a better engineer, and the curriculum isn't the same.
xer0x··on Show HN: I had some time yesterday so I made a GPT3 podcast to help you sleep
This is way to amazing & funny to be helpful for sleeping!
xer0x··on Cannabis and Male Fertility: A Systematic Review
How to tell your brother to stop spending money on fertility treatment without telling your brother to stop smoking weed?
xer0x··on How to get back into a hacked Facebook account
Yes! Yes! This happened to my wife. It was exactly the same. As her tech support team, I have wasted endless hours trying to recover her account. Facebook support has never responded, and we can see the account, yet we have no way to click any of the supposed "recovery options".

This is horrendous. I'm sad to see other people live through the frustration here, yet glad we're not the only ones.

xer0x··on Credit-card firms are becoming reluctant regulators of the web
+1 the credit-card companies are surprisingly keen to be our morality police.
xer0x··on Hacker News [keybase] proof just broke
Mine broke here too. Stumbled across this post after wondering if my HN account was hacked.
xer0x··on Deep JavaScript
+1 it looks great.
xer0x··on Ask HN: Are you still using Keybase?
Yep still use it. It's been stable, and still does what it did before the zoom purchase.

Actually, it felt like Keybase was scrambling to add weird features and find a fit before. They are what they are now.

xer0x··on “I saw that you spun up an Ubuntu image in Azure”
Oh! All Cloud hosting providers that have Ubuntu available provide Canonical with some information. I didn't realize that it was so personal! I'd heard that this information was used for licensing payments.
xer0x··on Amazon scooped up data from its own sellers to launch competing products
That amazon does has been common knowledge since Amazon Basics first appeared. Obviously, Amazon is enjoying the enviable position enjoying being the mall, the payment processor, and everything else.
xer0x··on Ok Google – it's time you discovered cyclists
Seriously! This is even more valid for Apple maps.
