xeornet··on Iran halts cooperation with UN nuclear watchdog
Ukraine never had them. They were Russian and could only be launched with codes held in Russia.
xeornet··on CT scans could cause 5% of cancers, study finds; experts note uncertainty
Well actually let’s find out whether they do cause it or not. Patients ought to know the risks beforehand if so. The calculation as to net benefit can be done later.
xeornet··on James Webb Space Telescope reveals that most galaxies rotate clockwise
Sorry if it's a dumb question, by why would we expect an equal number? Doesn't that assume that we consider ourselves at the centre of our observable universe?
xeornet··on Show HN: An API that takes a URL and returns a file with browser screenshots
What’s the chance you’re affiliated? Almost every one of your comments links to it. And curiously similar interest in Rust from the official HN page and yours. No need to be sneaky.
xeornet··on Show HN: Factorio Blueprint Visualizer
How many hours did it take you to finish space age?
xeornet··on Ambulance hits cyclist, rushes him to hospital, then sticks him with $1,800 bill
You are riding on roads made for cars - you are an afterthought. Whether it’s the cars fault or not - cycling on the road is dangerous.
xeornet··on Show HN: Inbound Email (SMTP) to Webhook
Useful, we're paying Sendgrid close to $500/month for inbound parse.
xeornet··on Ask HN: Am I using AI wrong for code?
Cursor.sh - it’s been game changer and 4 friends I’ve put onto it. I recommend learning it and forcing yourself to use it for 24 hours before deciding whether it’s useful to you.
xeornet··on Ask HN: Do you already see the impact of LLMs on the job prospects for dev's?
Anecdotally I agree with the 10-20% increase. Using Cursor.sh, so much less time wasted on menial tasks or reading documentation.
xeornet··on Boeing's Starliner Now Has 5 Leaks While Parked Outside the ISS
Both of those incidents have a total of zero percent relation to the aircraft being Boeing or its design.

The CNN article is wrong, it was since found the seat move switch was pushed and interfered with flight controls.

The 777 was severe turbulence. The death was a heart attack.

Lol…

xeornet··on Japan's birth rate falls to a record low as the number of marriages also drops
They are one and the same. Maybe constant population growth should not be our blind goal. It leads to cultures with higher birth rates taking over.
xeornet··on Japan's birth rate falls to a record low as the number of marriages also drops
At least they won’t open up to mass immigration to replace the native population - something being looked at as a solution in the West.

xeornet··on Austin was supposed to be the next big tech hub
Is the California you have the one you want?
xeornet··on Austin was supposed to be the next big tech hub
What? I was replying to the guy that essentially said that the people in Austin are white, Conservative and NON-educated. I went to on explain that there also educated white conservatives…
xeornet··on The world has probably passed peak pollution
Can you provide another reason? Something that isn’t: “he’s an evil madman”. That’s all we hear in the news.
xeornet··on Austin was supposed to be the next big tech hub
I’m happy to be white, conservative and well educated.

Stay in another state that’s more… culturally enriched.

xeornet··on Austin was supposed to be the next big tech hub
Christian nationalism and traditional values are home grown terrorism?

Yes… they’re definitely the extremists here.

xeornet··on Austin was supposed to be the next big tech hub
Sorry but a difference of opinion does not mean it’s toxic. The government is representing its voters - you’re essentially calling the majority of Texans toxic.
xeornet··on How did authorities identify the alleged LockBit boss?
Given the US sanctions against Russia, why would they aid in stopping him damaging US businesses?
xeornet··on The world has probably passed peak pollution
You clearly didn’t read what I posted and just repeat what we’re told on this side of the world.

That was the point, it was shut down - great! But to think that NATO expansion is not seen as a threat to Russia, having nukes on their doorstep is silly. And Ukraine creeping slowly closer to admission is a step too far for Russia.

“President Putin has made Ukraine's preliminary steps to joining NATO the principal grounds for the Russian invasion of Feb. 24, 2022.”

If a NATO-like power controlled by Russia was on our doorstep, we would do the same thing.

xeornet··on The world has probably passed peak pollution
The war in Ukraine was created by the US/Nato. It's incredibly naive to assume that Russia was the sole malicious actor here. I wonder how we would react if the soviet union was tipped to expand into Mexico.

That being said, this is the wrong forum for this both in terms of audience and topic. Awaiting the mass downvotes for an argument that holds merit but is difficult to swallow for the US public.

xeornet··on The world has probably passed peak pollution
It would seem politicians, especially in the West do not care at all about that concern.
xeornet··on Johnson and Johnson to pay $6.5B to resolve talc ovarian cancer lawsuits in U.S.
Those millions developing cancer naturally are an assumption - this is the issue with products that are so widespread that we don’t have a solid control group.

Certain other medical products imposed on the population raise similar concerns…

xeornet··on Ask HN: I have been unable to land a job in two years, does anybody
Instead of a full employment position, have you thought about freelancing for private clients, or building something and selling it?

We have such a reliance on hoping someone will give us a consistent, hourly rate rather than going it alone and doing something yourself. It's not easy - but you stop relying on others.

xeornet··on Ask HN: Can Devin genuinely replace the roles of developers?
I think it’s highly dependant on the language and framework and whether they lend themselves well to the way Cursor accepts context.
xeornet··on Ask HN: Can Devin genuinely replace the roles of developers?
Depending on what you’re building, likely sometime in the near future. I’m a senior dev, I’m just using Cursor.sh and my day is essentially telling it what I need done - and the code is written much faster than I could have.

Essentially I now just architect and review. Cursor has good context, so if that gets extended to the way Devin operates I think this could go pretty far.

xeornet··on Australia's spies, cops want accountable encryption- a.k.a. access to backdoors
One of the many reasons I am leaving Australia this year. Don’t get me started on all the other reasons.
xeornet··on Features macOS should copy from Linux
I’m not seeing any compelling points here.

Wants better package management because Homebrew is too complicated? Surely you could articulate why it’s not good?

But also wants multiple desktop environments and a very niche middle click macro?

This feels like clutching at anything to write an article that grabs attention.

xeornet··on PHP in 2024
Have been using PHP since 2008 and will continue to do so. The community, ease of development and ecosystem around Laravel is unbeatable.
