xboxnolifes··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
I am not doing any such thing. You are pulling whataboutisms left and right, and I'm trying to get across that the lack of a successful campaign does not prove the lack of sentiment. You need to carefully pick which political battles to take and, more importantly, when to take them.

If you think the current data center installations have problems you want to be addressed, you don't also bring up golf course water usage, farmland water rights, residential lawns, factory runoff, and climate change effects on rainwater. You'd just be distracting from the conversation.

xboxnolifes··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
Go look up articles from mid to late 2010s. There's where you will find frustration about golf courses, during the time where water restrictions were being put on residential lawns. Do not conflate the more recent, more successful campaign of anti-data-center sentiment with the non-existence of a past campaign against golf courses. It existed, it just petered out.
xboxnolifes··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
There has been tons of reported frustration with golf courses in the past. So, yes, people have, and it's pretty consistent here as well.
xboxnolifes··on Pentagon rescinds new testosterone screening policy without explanation
Presumably because a lot of people are circumcised and dont care.
xboxnolifes··on Pentagon rescinds new testosterone screening policy without explanation
Avoiding explanation on removal is the same as avoiding responsibility for enacting.
xboxnolifes··on Mom gets 6-month suspended sentence for letting 5-year-old walk to the pond
A lot of the ones that do get broadcasted still end up being a relative too, but you wouldn't know unless you look into it after it get resolved and stops being talked about.

what
xboxnolifes··on What if everything we know about recycling is wrong?
Because people forget their bags sometimes, and now they have 2 more they they need to use every week for 3 years to break even, on top of their previous bags. Because people take home leftovers from restaurants and the restaurant sometimes puts them into reusable bags, but you already have 10 reusable bags at home so it's not like getting another is helping. Because you get takeout or delivery once in a while and the food comes in a reusable bag that you are never going to reuse 100 times, because you already have 20 reusable bags from forgetting them while grocery shopping and taking home leftovers.
xboxnolifes··on Just bury your trash: What if everything we know about recycling is wrong?
> It’s a hard habit to break because we have lived our entire lives bringing the groceries in and unloading.

So... how are you bringing in the groceries? Making 10 trips stacking things in your hands?

xboxnolifes··on Just Bury Your Trash
That doesn't solve the problem of people littering. Obviously if trash gets into the trash can it ends up at the landfill.
xboxnolifes··on Dwarf Fortress' creator says the industry's in shambles over AI
The video game revenue growth is mostly mobile game and gacha game mtx, primarily in the Asian markets.
xboxnolifes··on RotaryCell: Making an unmodified rotary phone work over LTE with an ESP32-S3
My understanding is that at some point the audio of phone calls ended up being compressed multiple times on its way to the receiver as it went through different voip setups and such.

Prior to that, uncompressed or compressed once calls weren't so bad on bad speakers.

xboxnolifes··on EFF to Courts: Don't Rewrite Copyright over AI Hype
Copyright covers that merch and physical products as well.
xboxnolifes··on “I just chose words carefully”
Or if you're really insane, localize the entire UI.
xboxnolifes··on “I just chose words carefully”
The tricky part is that spoken language and written language are not the same. Even if you are a descriptionist that believes dictionaries should represent how people write, it doesn't necessarily mean that the spelling changes based on how people pronounce it.
xboxnolifes··on Highest-ever ocean temperature measured as powerful El Niño forms
A small town's policy can influence larger city policy, which can influence national policy.
xboxnolifes··on You Know GDPR Is Good Based on Who Hates It
It does apply to many things. That doesn't make it a bad argument, it means its a very useful argument in many contexts.
xboxnolifes··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
I didnt say they weren't antifacist because its both irrelevant to my point and i dont know nearly enough about them to claim so.
xboxnolifes··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
So, its not a group, its just multiple groups with the same label. My point stands. You cant just believe what someone labels themselves as, nor what others label them as. I never called them a centralized group.
xboxnolifes··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
I imagine every time they see a cookie banner they feel a chunk of the EU crumbling.
xboxnolifes··on Chicken products recalled in five states due to “false marks of inspection”
Do we need statistics by the administration? Look at the numbers of FDA recalls. And if you think recalls are happening less often, look for food poisoning cases too.
xboxnolifes··on 25,000 Lbs. Of Chicken Products Recalled in 5 States: USDA
Its only a nothing burger if its a benign reason for the recall. Otherwise, 25,000lb is enough chicken to make a lot of people sick. People might eat a lot of chicken every year, but it only takes 1 bad meal.
xboxnolifes··on Chicken products recalled in five states due to “false marks of inspection”
Let's see some stats on frequency of recalls over the years rather than relying on perfectly reliable human perception and never biased news headline frequency.
xboxnolifes··on 25,000 Lbs. Of Chicken Products Recalled in 5 States: USDA
Curating your news is part of healthy media consumption. You literally connect consume all news. There is too much, and once you find an unreliable source, its generally best avoided.
xboxnolifes··on U.S. sanctions against the A/I Collective
> (If you're opposed to antifascists what does that make you?

You cant judge a group by its name. Otherwise, Make America Great Again is great, the National Socialist German Workers' party seems fine, etc.

xboxnolifes··on EPA says power for data centers can sidestep pollution laws
Can you explain to me how that means its a Chinese spy op?
xboxnolifes··on Just the rumour of a bug is enough to find an exploit these days
I prefer the devil I know over the one I dont. At least I can make judgement calls with vulnerabilities im aware of. Automatic updates have unbounded risk.
xboxnolifes··on “It works better in the app”
I largely disagree. The web, and the browser by extension, is a multimedia platform. Thats text, images, videos, animations, interactivity, video calls, etc.

At the very least, I disagree about GPUs, OpenGL/Vulcan, and various audio and video related things.

xboxnolifes··on “It works better in the app”
Idk if its not in their best interest or something, but app stores should just allow installing an "app", which is really just a bookmark to website and hides all of the normal browser UI without having to bundle the entire browser with the app.
xboxnolifes··on Luanti removed from Google Play due to baseless AI copyright notice
If they put them side by side with the closest minecraft equivalent? Hopefully a few.

If it was a clone, surely the images would be the same.
