xGrill··on What We Learned Raising $1.5M on Kickstarter in 2017
I used to be an avid supporter of kickstarter in 2013-14, however, I've experienced too many products which over promise and under deliver.

Now, I would rather pay the 10% more for a product after reviews come out than be an early adopter because in the long run it saves me money from buying bad quality products.

I think a lot of people are starting to realize this, and kickstarter itself is losing credibility.

xGrill··on Ask HN: What laws would you remove or create to increase competition for ISPs
I think #1 and #2 wouldn't necessarily increase competition as much as limit the governments ability to further constrain it.

Wouldn't #3 limit the speed and growth to whatever the city can afford to provide? And truly the only ISP is the local government at that point since they own everything.

xGrill··on Amazon wins streaming rights for Thursday Night Football
They are actually not producing the games themselves, just the online streaming rights, so I think it will be capped at the 720p the games are usually recorded at.
xGrill··on How an Ad Campaign Made Lesbians Fall in Love with Subaru
Cars are almost always an emotional purchase. I don't think everyone else are idiots for not getting a Subaru, it probably means something about the car did not resonate with them. For me, it was the lack of luxury features. I am also from the south where AWD is not needed as much. The Subaru WRX is a great car though.
xGrill··on Instagram rolling out algorithmic feeds to some users
This is 100% a play for increasing the types of ads for Instagram, but I think it will hurt the platform in the long run.

When I started using snapchat, I thought one of the coolest features was that I could see everyone who viewed my story. Suddenly, I knew my audience and everyone who viewed my snaps. It made me want to post more on snapchat because I knew I had an audience.

I've heard from multiple Instagram users that their recent photos have not gotten the same amount of likes or views as they used to before the algorithm change, and I think this will cause users to be discouraged from posting to Instagram. It almost gives the platform an illusion that it is on the decline, regardless of if it is true or not.

xGrill··on Chart.js 2.0 Released
I believe it does using Time Scales, however, there is no example: http://www.chartjs.org/docs/#scales-time-scale

xGrill··on Show HN: Zube 1.0 – Powerful project management for GitHub Issues
Just one board with all the issues from multiple repos would be great! I think keeping non-issue backed tasks seperate makes sense.
xGrill··on Show HN: Zube 1.0 – Powerful project management for GitHub Issues
Hey Jen,

Congrats on 1.0. Our development team uses a micro service architecture that has 1 project spread across multiple repos, and I think the biggest problem with most project management software with extensive Github integration is that they are on a per repo basis. We can never get a holistic view of our entire application without duplicating work into another Project Management platform. Is there anything inside Zube that would alleviate this? How does Zube handle multiple repos for teams?

xGrill··on How Badoo Saved $1M Switching to PHP7
I would say people matter more than the language. If the smartest people at Badoo are most comfortable with PHP, then that is what they should go with. Let them do their jobs in the most efficient way they know how, in this case, PHP.

The 1 million Badoo saved here is nothing compared to how much more money they made from having these people build their platform.

xGrill··on Ask HN: What sucks in the project management software you use?
I just signed up for this and I am liking it. One feature I would love is a "Team Agile Board" that has all of the projects combined. That way, if you have multiple people working on multiple projects, there can be an "overview" board that you could potentially use in the agile standups instead of going inside each project individually.

xGrill··on Free, three-month trial of Apple Music now available
Apple always does updates in batches to help server load as well as minimize the affect of any issues that happen whenever the update goes live.
xGrill··on France Launches French Tech Ticket, a Startup Visa for Foreign Entrepreneurs
Can you elaborate on this? I had this idea lingering in the back of my head to move to France for 3-6 months to build out my concept/prototype and then move back to the US when I am ready to leave the "pre-revenue" stage of the startup.
xGrill··on Show HN: Robin – OpenTable for your office
Pricing seems really steep. The analytics seems cool, but nothing really actionable can be done about popular conference rooms once your office is already built out.

Can someone recommend a good tablet setup for this to maybe bring the price of your total conference room "system" down?

xGrill··on Reddit CEO Calls Out Former Reddit Employee on Reddit
I am not 100% sure of the agreements of his termination, but I am pretty sure no one is "forced" to sign anything, however, in the states, severance packages are optional, and not required. If the company wants to give severance packages if you sign a non-disparagement agreement, I do not see anything wrong with this.
xGrill··on ExpressJS 4.0 has been released
From the migrating guide: "This change was made to allow for these [connect] middleware to receive fixes, updates, and releases without impacting express release cycles and vice versa."
xGrill··on Mayer Is Aiming to Bring Back Search Tech to Yahoo
I don't consider the black bar a result since it just links to another Google search with even more ads.
xGrill··on Mayer Is Aiming to Bring Back Search Tech to Yahoo
This could be a great move. Google has moved focus on its search to advertising.

When searching "Hotels in San Francisco", the first organic search term is below the fold for me, which is a 180 from where Google was even 3 years ago.
