wunki··on FASTRA II: the world’s most powerful desktop supercomputer
Although the computer itself is reason enough to be impressed, I must admit I more impressed with the use of the "super" computer. Beautiful that us geeks can contribute so much to every other discipline.

Immediately, back in my head, I got this gnarling feeling that I should also use my skills in such life improving projects instead of building the next social _______ life drain.

wunki··on Xmonad 0.10 was released
I'm also using XMonad on Arch Linux. I found it hard to setup correctly, but once it is, it's a real productivity booster. Firing up another terminal (Meta-Shift-Enter) and not worrying about it's position is a time saver.

If you want to try it out, I can help you by reducing the time needed to set it up. My dotfiles are here: https://github.com/wunki/wunki-dotfiles

Best nuggets for your setup can be found in xmonad.hs, xinitrc and Xdefaults files.

wunki··on Vim Movement Shortcuts Wallpaper
Great work on the shortcuts, the wallpaper wasn't my style though. Hope you don't mind, but I created a minimalistic version on a dark background.

P.S: Don't know where I got this squared background from anymore, so, sorry for no attribution..

wunki··on Running a startup on Haskell
I'm very impressed with the amount and quality of libraries they have released on Github [1].

Going to use the following in my "webmachine in Haskell" project.

  - aeson: Fast json library [2]
  - pronk: load test webservers [3]

wunki··on Technical Papers Every Programmer Should Read (At Least Twice)
Archived the papers mentioned by fogus and converted the .ps files to .pdf. For those who want quick access to them, download here:

wunki··on Elastic Load Balancer SSL Support Options
Wonder if this makes it easier for Heroku to offer SSL support. Currently it's either:

  - SNI, doesn't work with the Cedar stack or < IE8
  - Hostname, strips headers
  - IP, costs 100 dollar p/m.
wunki··on No Server Required - Jekyll & Amazon S3
I'm also using Hakyll for my site (http://www.wunki.org). Used Jekyll before, but I didn't think the markdown libraries were up to par with Pandoc. You can browse the source code of my site here: https://github.com/wunki/www.wunki.org.

I also threw together a script (./publish) that first gzips the static files and then uploads them to S3 with the correct headers (gzip and cache-control). Finally, it invalidates the old files on Cloudfront. Combined I get a very fast site, while keeping the cost low. Again, you can find it all in the github repository.

wunki··on FreeBSD/EC2 lives
Thanks Colin! You made my day.

Is there anything I can do to make this available to EU-West? Or should I just wait?

wunki··on How to add a notifier LED to your computer
Although I applaud the engineering effort, I would never make this myself because it will proof a huge distraction.

I would become a slave of my email.

wunki··on [dead]
I don't agree. If there is a company that could stand up against such threats of government, it would be Amazon. I would have loved to see this played out in court.

Although I do understand that for Amazon's business it's better to minimize all risk, it would have been nice if they stood up for free speech.

wunki··on Build It With Me (Connects designers and developers)
Same here. Although the interface looks nice, it caused my system to hang for a few seconds. This is a high-end PC running Firefox 3.5.5 on ArchLinux. You need to fix this.

Add filtering or at least some pagination.

wunki··on SEO is fraud? Look at the size of these top SEO companies
My opinion is that SEO doesn't add that much to the value of a website when the website is designed with good standards. Ex: robots.txt, sitemap.xml, meta tags, no frames, etc.

The fact is however, most companies wouldn't know if there website is build according to these standards. This makes it that SEO people can easily sell there product because which company wouldn't want to be higher on Google? I give you money, you make me first on Google, I get more money. That's the simple and sellable equation SEO companies give.

(It also relates to the common problem in web development. Most of the buyers don't know what quality they are getting because they will never look at the source code. They only see a pretty website.)
