wslh··on Google's AI is being manipulated. The search giant is quietly fighting back
> How is it different from a person believing whatever they read on the Internet?

Because the answers, while prompting, are clearly more human and charming than a search engine results list?

wslh··on Goodbye Visa and Mastercard: 130M Europeans switching to sovereign payment
The difference is clearly that banks have a different agenda from central banks.

SWIFT is a cooperative of banks also but it seems that some central banks endeavours are better. BTW Argentina created an innovation back in the early 2000s as a product of a crisis. It was implemented in record time and transfers were immediate back then and improving. It's not run by the central banks though.

wslh··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
Same here, and worst because in another thread users are generating animations.
wslh··on Google changes its search box
Beyond the AI expenses, prompting captures more information from the consumer that keyword search. I assume they can take a lot of advantage from this and a new generation of ad engines is near the corner.
wslh··on Gemini 3.5 Flash
Can you try with a more complex story such as "three little pigs"? I tried but it created a storybook instead of the SVG animation. I am looking to partially imitate Godogen [1][2] which is really great, even for animations.

wslh··on Project Glasswing: what Mythos showed us
In the last few days I was recommending to read the insights from XBOW [1], it's a competitor but it adds more information to the discussion.

wslh··on AI is a technology not a product
If capable humanoid robots are really closer than most people think, I'd be surprised if Apple isn't exploring them. That may be the counterexample to "AI is not a product": a physical AI product where hardware, sensors, UX, privacy, and integration matter as much as the model.
wslh··on Frontier AI has broken the open CTF format
I would start saying that many people need presence in a real environment with people to learn. We don't use all our senses in a remote environment.
wslh··on We are retiring our bug bounty program
I will include this security project as an addendum to my reply: <https://github.com/juli/taint>. Views on crypto can differ dramatically depending on the country you live in.
wslh··on We are retiring our bug bounty program
This is one of the cases where crypto works well.
wslh··on First public macOS kernel memory corruption exploit on Apple M5
I think it's worth to look at the recent XBOW benchmark: https://xbow.com/blog/mythos-offensive-security-xbow-evaluat... they realized that ChatGPT 5.5 works better so the secret is in the architecture (including humans in the loop).
wslh··on Palantir to be granted "unlimited access" to UK NHS patient data
I would say that this requires "opt in" more than "opt out".

wslh··on America's A.I. Is Futuristic. China Is Just Making It Work
"Most Chinese policymakers don’t believe A.I. superintelligence is arriving any time soon. Instead, the Chinese strategy is about advancing a government-directed strategy referred to as “A.I.+” that treats A.I. as if it were infrastructure."

If this is accurate, Chinese policymakers may be making the more realistic bet. Much of the U.S. discussion is organized around frontier models, AGI, and superintelligence, but building policy around speculative timelines risks turning wishful thinking into national strategy.

wslh··on A recent experience with ChatGPT 5.5 Pro
I assume that once LLMs are trained with large [synthetic] information about 3D Clifford algebras it will work better.
wslh··on Pinocchio is weirder than you remembered
Tim Burton's Pinocchio was cancelled, but reading this, I can imagine this could have been his director's cut.
wslh··on Brazil's Pix payment system faces pressure from Visa and Mastercard
> Pix is certainly great, but locally only,

Pix is no local as a user, you can use it without a CPF: <https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48053527>.

wslh··on Poland is now among the 20 largest economies. How it happened
Countries don't mechanically convert inputs into development. There are many examples of countries with large capital inflows and/or strong capabilities that still fail to become strong economies. Corruption is one of the major frictions that prevents those resources from translating into broad economic success.
wslh··on Brazil's Pix payment system faces pressure from Visa and Mastercard
No, for example Argentinian tourists use Belo[1] for paying in Brazil. No need for credit cards.

wslh··on Mythos is the best cybersecurity news in a decade
I'd expect the bigger shift to be toward secure-by-construction building blocks: less custom code that needs to be audited from scratch, and more hardened or verified components where common bug classes are already designed out.
wslh··on Google Cloud fraud defense, the next evolution of reCAPTCHA
I imagine again a worldwide search for the cheapest labor. Mechanical Turk on steroids.
wslh··on OpenAI president forced to read his personal diary entries to jury
Privacy and privilege (e.g. attorney/client) are different things, but I'd be curious about the edge cases here: can a personal journal become privileged or protected?
wslh··on Ti-84 Evo
Looking at the price of this and other calculators, I wonder if there's a market for "dumb calculators" analogous to dumb terminals: a device with the calculator form factor, keyboard, and display, but where the actual computation happens on a paired computer/phone or a cloud endpoint over WiFi/Bluetooth.
wslh··on No new trial for Sam Bankman-Fried
The most revealing detail is the PR plan. It shows the machinery behind the public persona: legal strategy, media appearances, ideological repositioning, and "radical honesty" all treated as narrative management. It matters because it helps people see how public reality gets shaped, not just reported.
wslh··on Naval Ravikant: Apple is dead, SaaS is next, you have 18 months
We are living in interesting times: there are now zillions of messiahs, not just one.

More seriously, this take seems to ignore something important: Apple Silicon is already very good at running local LLMs. If the future interface is agentic and on-device, Apple may be better positioned than this argument suggests.

wslh··on Zed 1.0
I think the Zed team's enthusiasm adds a lot of momentum to the product, on top of their indisputable engineering capabilities.
wslh··on Bankruptcies increase 11.9 percent
Are there markets where people can bet on bankruptcy rates too? Gambling increases bankruptcies, and then people gamble on the bankruptcies.
wslh··on I Built an AI Trading Platform in Six Days. That's Terrifying

wslh··on Supreme Court to hear arguments in landmark Roundup weedkiller case
I am really very confused because I have seen documentaries related to this[1] and would like to understand where are the errors when there are more cancer cases close to these areas.
