wowsig··on David Bowie's list of books he loved in his life
Hey, creator of ShelfJoy here. You explained it right :)
wowsig··on Show HN: Booknshelf – Discover great books on different topics
Played around with Booknshelf for a while. If it was your weekend project, I think you've done quite an awesome job!

Glad that you've been thinking on the same lines as we did. We started with a similar concept as a facebook bot and now have made it into a web app.

Infact, I'd love it if you played around with it for sometime and make your reading lists there.

wowsig··on YC's Winter Reading List
Excellent list! I've added all the books for people to save books to their reading list here on ShelfJoy http://shelfjoy.com/shelfjoy/wrap-up-your-2016-with-ycs-wint...

The summer reading list is also available here: http://shelfjoy.com/shelfjoy/ycombinators-summer-list-of-201...

Thanks for the wonderful recommendations to everyone at YC!

wowsig··on My Favorite Books of 2016
So many book recommendations. Really suggest people to create the list of books they read in 2016 over at http://shelfjoy.com so that others can bookmark them and this thread is kept alive.
wowsig··on Alan Kay's reading list
I've been making lists out of book recommendations from Reddit. Adding this list and all the other books on www.shelfjoy.com
wowsig··on Need your honest opinion about my new landing page
Check out landerapp.com. They have a template in the style you want and it is better color synchronized. Please take care of the grammar and the spellings though.

It is a good idea to use a slider with discretion. Sliders like what you have used is a bad usability practice. I wasn't able to slide the slider at all and I wasn't able to navigate the site at all.

But in cases, where you have limited data points to offer, having the slider bar readjust to the next data point is a good idea.

The dissection is just perfect. Although the tilted rectangle still doesn't make so much sense within the grid. The grid with the tilted one looks to me an afterthought imposition. Although the idea that third party apps could use more of the tilted grid seems good as it would created a visual difference that is easy to note.
wowsig··on India's Pointless Search for 'Black Money'
Money stashed by politicians/rich-beyond-measure industrialists are a black box for majority of Indians. This money is not understood in terms of the impact it will make even if it flows back. Apart from this money, there is admittedly $20 Billion stashed in the form of gold in temples in India, this money is untaxed and not accounted for. For reasons that don't reveal themselves to me, no one speaks of such godly tax havens.

I saw it. Deleting it right now. Apparently couldn't take the load.

52metrics.com is an employee feedback application that automates the task of asking regular questions from your team members. Your team members get asked one question a week, over email and the resulting feedback and answers are recorded and presented on a dashboard. You can either act on the feedback yourself or assign it to the relevant people on the team.

The questions are designed to measure critical parameters affecting an employee. Namely, team-behavior, culture of the company, work load and relationship with managers. The questions are deliberately designed to have qualitative answers, which generate deeper insights into human behavior than scaled responses. Currently, the product is in active development, and I am accepting teams for a free closed beta. The chosen teams will be getting to use the product for free for 3 months.

Have a look at the link and give your feedback.

wowsig··on It's OK not to use tools
I don't see a lot of value in this post. No one is really there to judge you on what you used to get your stuff done. Unless people are just intrinsically pressured to use the latest stuff, which is quite illogical. CMSes exist because they make the maintenance easier. Not because they are the in-thing to do.

wowsig··on Seeking design cofounder
Could you elaborate a little on the idea here? It would be painful for everybody to shoot you an email and then you replying to it.
wowsig··on Ask HN: CTO wants me to leave
Cannot stress more on the part about writing/archiving everything. Relationships between the founders, during the very early days of a startup can swing between extreme brotherhood to extremely sceptical. Everyone is bearing the brunt of pressure and if things are not moving, it is human to delegate the responsibility of performance onto the other guy. I started a content-based startup in my college, and created much of the content myself. The trust that I bestowed upon my other co-founder was futile though. In the end, when things weren't looking up much, he ended up with not giving back the original content to me at all. Since the content was in the form of hand-drawn cartoon strips, I was just left with nothing. I saved up emails, but they didn't achieve much. In the future, the other co-founder tried to do things his way, but he didn't pursue the idea further, and all my hard work of creating just went down the drain. Make sure it doesn't happen to you.
wowsig··on Tell HN: My Brother Died Last Week. His Death Will Not Be In Vain
I was caught thinking whether he committed suicide. It is a brave idea to discuss the intimate details of such a grave news, but transparency to the last mile will only help others a little more.
wowsig··on 2014 Gates Annual Letter: Myths that block progress for the poor
Some major ground has been covered in the article, and sparked a few more pointers. I come from a country receiving substantial aid, and yet I see that a lot of new initiatives could be kickstarted by the wealthy citizens themselves. Covering the reasons why the middle-class and the rich hesitate to lean in philanthropy would also instigate more people to contribute.
