I think their ecosystem is still small enough that good apps do well, whereas with iOS/Android you really have to build super polished apps and market them to thrive.
KaiOS is just HTML/JavaScript, I ended up using Vue and building my own component library that I could re-use in every app.
I also run https://monitorprices.org, which is just a list of available monitors on Amazon, but provides a bit more filters. Does about $125 a month, maybe double if there’s a creator reward campaign running.
Nothing splashy or exciting really, but it gives me motivation to keep trying things.
The only time it stopped was after about 7 months, when we finally signed a settlement agreement. But then it all started again when no payment came in.
I’m not sure how the other party felt about all this, but to be on the receiving end of it all is horrible, and maybe just accepting the money is lost would’ve been better in the end.
In the end I lost far more money than just what my client owed me. For months I couldn’t focus on work, and just wasn’t mentally able to find new clients.
My own CSS is classic BEM style, so very component like.
In hindsight I could easily replace Tailwind and just produce a set of CSS variable as a design system.
Did you also live in North Point? I still remember the eerie vibes of the days after, almost every single shop was closed, and corners were guarded by certain people. A couple of days after, I went out for a walk, and came home to a standoff between protesters and riot police. I ended up going to Macau for a couple of days so to avoid the chaos.
I also felt that as a foreigner it was rather difficult, protesters would assume you're on their side, until you slightly criticized some of their actions, then you were just labelled as misinformed, and "you wouldn't understand as a foreigner". So I mostly just stuck to myself and refrained from discussing it with locals.
Have yet to run Bun in production tho.
Many of the - what I consider - digital nomad visas, aren't specifically called that, but I think digital nomads are still a group that qualifies for them.
Not picking sides here, just curious; if a better standard comes along, do we all have to wait for the EU to turn it into a law before companies can change to that new standard?
If I were to return back to Europe, the UK might indeed be a decent choice.
However they failed to even send me the voucher within 24 hours, so when I called back, I was told the flight would be an extra US$3,000.
I tried to explain the issue, that they never send me the voucher, and due to that I would be on the hook for extra costs? The support agent was totally uncooperative, and just kept asking "what would you like to do". Turned into a bit of a shouting match.
In the end I had my flight cancelled, and a voucher was issued straight away.
I still don't understand why they couldn't just look at their own logs, realize they actually didn't send the voucher, and just book me on the original flight. Or why the first support agent couldn't just use my voucher to pay for the flight.
This was also a business class flight, so I can't imagine how economy passengers are treated.
I haven’t really looked into this offshore exemption, since I’m living here as well.
Corporate fees capped at 16.5%, with the first 2 million HKD only 8.25%.
Can all be done online and remotely as well.
Additional benefit that you can apply for an APEC visa to make traveling around easier.
There’s now also 15-day visa free travel if you’re one of 6 countries: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-67516777
