IMO, this content is of high cultural value and I fear it won’t be long that the goog suffers us to watch “their” content without infecting it with ads.
I wish there was an easier way to self host this content with a way to organize and browse using tags.
Serious cyclists tend to be on the older side…
This is me as well. Thanks much for your perspective, it was helpful in me making the decision to jump in.
I do like the idea of supporting products and services that are staving off enshitificaiton.
This post, combined with the fact that your planner actually allows me to force a path has won me as a customer. I'll also note that setting your yearly at 75% of the monthly is wise considering very low winter time usage.
For me, churn or not is going to come down to whether I can read critical details on your mobile app without having to put reading glasses on. (which is a factor that not even a $2t company like Apple can address properly)
I couldn't imagine trying to build a complex route on a tiny screen with a crappy phone UI. I am starting to feel like an old man yelling at clouds here. Why in the hell wouldn't you prefer to use a nice monitor with a mouse for a complex task like this?
I'd spend up to a $100 once on a killer tool that meets all my needs in this space.
This subscription first crap is way out of hand.
So far, every planner I have tried from this thread has just been frustrating in one way or another. It seems very hard for most to understand things like road+MTB in one ride or that the map shows that the road doesn't go through, but I can simply walk through a gate that a car can't.
As an oldster who has only recently gotten into edm, I am clue free on where to begin finding anything underground and mainstream venues suck.
Since babysitting is essentially required in our current social framework, why do we need physical schools with in person teachers. It seems to me that we could have babysitting facilities spread to lots of small commercial spaces with in person babysitters for kids who are doing school on computers with synchronous teachers online.
I realize that the model I’ve laid out here is simplistic, but it would solve so many problems that it seems worthwhile to flesh it out and mitigate the issues.
From what I could tell when choosing AM over Spotify, the latter has a lot of playlists for discovery and I would never use my streaming service for discovery as it encourages the service to promote music it is paid to promote.
Of course AM is annoying too because 3 out of 5 navigation icons along the bottom of the UI are for discovery. But AM has Siri integration, which works some of the time… :-/
Huh? I was there this summer with my daughter and there were plenty of Airbnbs. They were dramatically more affordable (especially given my need for two separate rooms).
I get the AirBnB hate from local renters, but as a frequent traveler, hotels suck so bad that they deserve disruption.
I would love to actually be able to dance/move at packed shows. Not to mention the absolutely lame rise of seated only shows. Orchestral music, ok, but sitting down at a rock show is neutering the experience for me.
I can't imagine that there wouldn't be enough people like me to support an inexpensive (compared to FB, etc) endeavor like this. If it still isn't enough, have local only ads that are not tracked and are served right from the site (and give users control over the type of ads they want to see). I wouldn't mind a couple unobtrusive ads for local restaurants, services, etc.
Maybe I am underestimating the cost here, but I also think that HN generally underestimates the social angst over the massive invasion of privacy by corporations. 90% of my non-tech friends and family have asked me how bad it is and how they can avoid it. Of course I just shrug and say you can't...
p.s. can you please link the HN discussion you referenced?
I have always been curious how people manage this to workout so early. Do you skip pooping? That would wreak havok on my workday.
Paypal Enshitification level = 11
This is what I got from chatgpt:
“PAGA claim (Private Attorneys General Act) in California allows employees to file lawsuits on behalf of the state for labor code violations.”
How would that apply here?
