This ignores the existence of batching capabilities like epoll and io uring. Async IO may need to do more syscalls than blocking IO for a single operation, but the story looks different if you consider a large number of operations that are awaited as a group.

Personally, I find docker compose to be the sweet spot for reproducibility and ease of use. There's some bespoke setup, but I can go from backups and fresh hardware to running apps in a couple of hours.

I tried Sonos once and ran far, far away. My rule ever since has been that I buy dumb speakers and attach the networked audio device of the day. Today I'm using Wiim streamers, used to use Chromecast Audio, briefly ran an OSS stack. That's the only way to have power over companies in this scenario: I can swap out the networked bit anytime with a minimum of cost and waste.
