whoopsie··on The Resilience of Costco (2018)
They’ve wasted about ~$100M and three years to build an iPad KYC membership app to replace some of the AS/400 functions. It still hasn’t launched because it’s a fuck up from database to client. Until they hire from outside, their IT will always be shitty.

“… completely redesign the…” “This work was substantial…”

I struggled to spot the differences between the before and after. In my company, “complete redesign” has a totally different meaning.

whoopsie··on Transparent telemetry for open-source projects
Opaque telemetry can also be a barrier to adoption: my users’ IP addresses may legally be PII that I cannot disclose.

whoopsie··on Why can’t we get a handle on this safety thing? (1998)
Some sites have great safety culture. Others don’t. (In Seattle, there are good examples of this.) accident reports still have higher license ratings more frequent than p1/p2, but that’s unadjusted for flight hours.
whoopsie··on App Store doesn't accept “too simple” apps
Apple has repeatedly featured my fintech’s app. Almost every corner is designed to be nearly the same as our website… to boot the web has a few more functionalities.
whoopsie··on App Store doesn't accept “too simple” apps
Funny as hell… Apple keeps featuring out fintech app, which is image lock up for image lockup the exact same as our website.
whoopsie··on Webcams aren't good enough
Except it cannot handle exposure changes at all, whether from a cloud or just moving around in the frame. So you AE lock and babysit. It’s just easier to link up your phone.
