whateveracct··on OpenAI bots knew about the RubyGems caching vulnerability
how convenient
whateveracct··on From Git to Fossil (2025)
the rust community is trash tho. such bad personalities all around. "mirrors" the issues with the nix community tbh..
whateveracct··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
astra is more parlor tricks than real gains tbh

i swear they trained in on threejs in particular so those idiots on twitter could spam their garbage demos

whateveracct··on We must pace the frontier
and that hunger for compute has made it so true personal computing freedom is inaccessible. A convenient future where all compute is for rent only..
whateveracct··on We Must Pace the Frontier
Yes, LLMs with unbounded capabilities can just be tantamount to viruses.
whateveracct··on OpenAI agents carried out an undisclosed attack on RubyGems
i think (criminal) negligence is more like it
whateveracct··on A misalignment of AI in mathematics
AI parlor tricks yet again
whateveracct··on Rivian's gambit for full autonomy
why wouldn't the FSD company itself integrate into insurance? they have the error rate data which is king for insurance. seems like free real estate.
whateveracct··on Rivian's gambit for full autonomy
Waymo is first to market by retrofitting a bunch of Jaguars nobody else would buy. They can keep that arbitrage up for a while.
whateveracct··on Function Arguments Are Not Function Colors
it is all assembly under the hood but it's also all lambda calculus under the hood
whateveracct··on Anthropic researcher says more than 10% chance AI "could kill all humans"
it's not marketing. it's an internal culture (emphasis on cult) that's high in its own supply.
whateveracct··on Function Arguments Are Not Function Colors
Actually, the IO monad in haskell desugars to

RealWorld -> (a, RealWorld)

Where RealWorld is a "token" that is just meant to be threaded through. You cannot create one yourself, so you have to be given one.

Thus, that function argument colors IO. Every PL feature is just an extension to System F.

whateveracct··on I resigned from Anthropic today
the AI-pilled exec at my job already (a few weeks ago) declared out of nowhere that we are in the rapid takeoff scenario lol. he must have gotten high on twitter kool-aid and posted on company slack to self-soothe.
whateveracct··on I resigned from Anthropic today
high on their own supply
whateveracct··on LG TVs caught spying even when offline or on standby
The point is more that LG has proven fully untrustworthy so the fact that it is possible is troubling.

And ofc, an adversary can operate that way.

whateveracct··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
thank you for the link!
whateveracct··on Your intellectual fly is open (2025)
writing also implicitly has your review baked in. hand written code is "reviewed by construction", if you will.
whateveracct··on The "$60 Gaming PC" – AMD BC-250 (2025)
i would happily use my pangram plan to submit report pdfs
whateveracct··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
for self hosted and personal use, compute lasts a good while though. and in the time you would've been waiting to time the compute market, you get to benefit by being less a part of the AI data dragnet.
whateveracct··on America's two largest school districts impose AI moratoriums
The issue is at scale. A tragedy of the commons in a way. I have seen a situation where engineers can't write code by hand if challenged to. Not one. At scale (like the juniors got quizzed as an AI sanity check and couldn't hack it.)
whateveracct··on America's two largest school districts impose AI moratoriums
yeah AI companies are pretty vehemently set on making kids dumb & dependent on their products for life. a school district doesn't have the power or bankroll to oppose them. what arrogance lol
whateveracct··on Nitter has more working instances than before the takedowns
back on when websites were websites. HN of today on my phone reminds me of that.
whateveracct··on “Next-token predictor” is the wrong mental model for LLMs
the next token part is like the "clock" that drives it
whateveracct··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
my feel after a lot of experience with agentic haskell at scale has been...no they cannot and maybe the opposite lol
whateveracct··on The asteroid currently hitting front end web development
thanks i hate it
whateveracct··on Muse Spark 1.3
Zuck's bad PR is to blame here. Not the commenters. He should fix that.

Anduril makes this same complaint whenever their job posts get dumped on. Same idea. Fix your bad PR, buddies :)

whateveracct··on Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber
they're wrong but they are right that this isn't interesting
whateveracct··on I used Fable to rewrite 65kLoC of Go in Rust. It cost $400
pangram says 100% human
whateveracct··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
i relate to zitron cuz of how much he seems to genuinely hate the people in charge of this AI bubble. he, like me, seems to wish that when this all falls apart they get proportionate harm to go.

that'll obviously never happen. it's wishful thinking and venting tbh. that's why i like listening to his stuff.

it's better than reading the wholly AI slop docs my CEO keeps sending out

whateveracct··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
these comments are not helpful and in fact hurt readability. i just delete them and would love to automatically do that honestly. cuz claude still drops long winded comments on every method even if i ask it not to
