I don't think this is helpful to bots tbh. For over a decade every time I come across a clear bot account their comment history seems very human. I assume they're either buying real accounts for one-off astroturfing hit and runs in combination with deleting older astroturfing comments after the submission stops getting traffic to hide their footprints. Or more likely there's a giant ring of bots that submit innocent things and then comment preplanned innocent things in a giant bot circle and then make pointed comments on r/politics or whatever after establishing an innocent baseline. This is the obvious approach I'd take if it were me.
I'd also be really surprised if there wasn't coordination with Reddit employees/execs themselves for big advertisers.
Unfortunately unless you also ban it in comments, people with an axe to grind will find a way to bring it up in the most inappropriate places. Casual swipes at Elon and Trump and Biden or AOC (depending on your corner of the internet) will happen on stories about the nutritional value of school lunches or fundraising for some animal shelter. It even happens on HN constantly.
I have the sneaking suspicion that reddit has allowed and facilitated astroturfing for over a decade. As in, providing accounts, eliminating rate limits, artificially boosting posts and comments, and aggressively shadow banned contrary opinions. This is definitely a known phenomenon on a auto moderator level but I bet reddit ownership is complicit in it too
I wonder if Microsoft did focus group testing and found understandably computer illiterate people were concerned about "trashing" files meant they were somehow permanently using up HDD space
I think he meant physically mature. Like the brain is more well developed.
As a former gifted child who was emotionally immature and gifted, I hope your kid gets the guidance I never did both to understand his adhd and how it impacts him, but also emotional compassion for himself and from parents about how hard adhd can be
I'm not supporter of capitalism, but what Elon is doing is the same as any other business or capitalist participant. He is seeing current demand and anticipating future demand and building systems to meet that demand. I have no desire for society to fulfill whims of the ruling elite but I don't think Elon is doing this on a whim anymore than any business doing any thing likely to make them money.
We have 15,000 satellites in orbit that are almost literally the exact same premise currently being proposed - a computer with solar panels attached. We've being doing exactly this for decades.
The problem Elon is trying to address is a societal one, not a technical one. The amount of push back on clean energy generation and manufacturing prevents data centers on earth from being as feasible as they should be. He only got his newly opened xAI data center open using temporary generators on trailers and skirting the permitting process by using laws designed for things like traveling circuses.
I'm strongly against CSAM but I will say this analogy doesn't quite hold (though the values behind it does)
Libel must be as assertion that is not true. Photoshopping or AIing someone isn't an assertion of something untrue. It's more the equivalent of saying "What if this is true?" which is perfectly legal
I did this about a dozen times until I had too many TSA agents become extremely shitty and hostile towards me. The last two times they were making threats as I was walking away that they were going to "get me". I decided my protest opt out excuse wasn't worth dealing with attitude. They usually also made me stand there and wait sort of blocking everyone for 5-10 minutes until they even called someone over
What evidence do you have of Tesla performing poorly as a whole compared to others in the space, and/or Elon not successfully growing the company at reasonable rates?
Strongly disagree. I find the materials in Teslas to be perfectly fine, and the aesthetic itself is basically unsurpassed, but I'm a big fan of minimalism and hate the 8 million buttons and dials some cars have, which I think is really just driving home (hah) that these are all subjective opinions and not of it is fact so we maybe shouldn't state it as such
Okay I'll go to Kroger who also has horrible anti competitive practices and buy their store brand which is literally just Nestle but in different packaging
This isn't correct. It is infringement, for example, to write Harry Potter fan fiction in private on a typewriter, even if another soul never sees it. Copyright includes creation, not just distribution
It'd be interesting to correlate this against total posting activity on HN as well, to account for it being progressively a more popular website to post on
I wish it touched on its approach to very common finger printing data. Does it send browser window size? Your time zone? Your OS? The languages you've previously chosen to translate?
Unless it meaningfully closes the loop on not sending data to fingerprint with, I'm not sure "zero telemetry" is really a selling point at all
It's unfortunate to see her have a lot of self awareness of her status and what she represents in part (capitalism), but when it comes to asking herself why some people have a negative knee jerk reaction to her presence, she falls back to "it's because I'm a woman". Which to be fair I am positive happens and frequently. But I would be shocked if it wasn't more commonly because she's rich and famous and lives a life of hedonism (her words). She even touches on this when she describes entering through back entrances and the staff probably hating her. She represents the same feeling we have about trust fund babies. They have a ridiculous fun, easy, rewarding life, and meanwhile then waiter is cleaning baby vomit off the ground for $20 an hour after tips.
They literally autonomously drive through a Boring tunnel when they leave the manufacturing plant to park in a parking lot. I have no idea why you're stating they can't.
There were many other similar ones, especially on the smaller digital ad spaces that were basically just TVs on the side of roads. And those ones were more specifically calling for empathy for the deaths occurring to Israeli people during the war on Palestine
