wesley··on A Real Keyboard for Programmers?
This is the real, modular keyboard for programmers/hackers:

http://acidfire.ca/keyboard/BDY14295.jpg

(It's a modular kit, the image above is just one of the configurations, the center part is an addon).

You can also have multiple layers, so you could create a dedicated programming layer. All firmware will be open source.

It's going to go up on kickstarter soon (when Canada launches in september).

More info here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44940.0

Some more images (the thread is pretty lengthy):

Over the top: http://acidfire.ca/keyboard/BDY14284.jpg

Later on more modules will be sold, such as a trackball module that you could place in the center and so on.

There's also going to be a portable version:

wesley··on Amulyte (YC S13) is Building a Better Lifeline For Seniors on the Move
Is there anything like this out there already? With good battery life.

What's the third challenge? :-)

Sounded good, until I heard about the monthly fee.

I don't think this will go very far, as there are probably other companies going after this market without any extra fees.

Also, the battery life needs to be at least a month.

wesley··on John Carmack joins Oculus as CTO
I guess they could do some virtual reality meetings.
wesley··on Feds tell web firms to turn over user passwords
So really what we need is some kind of API design that allows for password changes that all websites should adopt. Of course that's never going to happen...

Still, if 1password made scraping work for the biggest sites out there (google, microsoft, etc) then that in itself would already be worthwhile.

wesley··on Feds tell web firms to turn over user passwords
Some kind of automated solution to handle this would be nice. Think 1password with automated password changes daily.

How hard can it be? It can already log in by itself, now it just needs to know the page where you can change your password.

Just wondering, are those MSN icons, or are these available in a free-to-use license somewhere online?
wesley··on Ask HN: Any Mac users on Chrome facing constant crashes and lag lately?
Nope not really, the one thing that has changed is that I can no longer use the swipe left to go back command. Swiping forward still works.

How are you able to query the accessiblity api so fast? In my experience, it's awfully slow.
wesley··on Laravel 4.0 Released
Easier to develop for thanks to the great syntax, but unfortunately slower than everything except symfony.

Still, shouldn't they decide on some kind of default? (Even if it's third party). What will happen to laravel bundles if everyone uses different form libraries in those bundles? (I assume there will still be something different from composer for bundles?)
wesley··on Laravel 4 Beta released
Form and HTML helpers have been removed it seems, I wonder why?

wesley··on Pdf2htmlEX: A PDF to HTML converter
What's I'd like to see is a library that can extract multi-column text into a readable format. From looking at the source of the HTML here, they're doing it with absolute positioning. Nothing wrong with that for display purposes, but I'd like to have a library that can extract text meaningfully from a multi-column PDF.

How exactly can they get to tweets that have only been posted for a few seconds (and then deleted)? Does the API still return deleted tweets for some time?
wesley··on Show HN: Email that self-destructs when forwarded
If you read the site, they convert it to an image. Usability for this sucks, no searching, no copying.
wesley··on Show HN: Email that self-destructs when forwarded
What is the unique fingerprint made of? If I upgrade my windows software (for example), will I still be able to read the email (which is an image!)

And if I buy a new computer, then import my backed up emails, will I still be able to read it?
