wesapien··on Efficient keyboard layout for English and Spanish
Sure I was just thinking for most people. I just got a ZMK keyboard and I'm I've been practicing Coleman and qwerty. After less than an hour on Coleman, I was struggling on qwerty and had to wait for qwerty to switch back on my brain. Are you able to switch to qwerty with out issues if you need to?

The bigger point is that they took away the agency of some doctors. The vaccine and ivermectin both didn't have enough time for testing for safety and efficacy.

If you're goal is ergonomics, the physical layout will get you 90% of the benefits. Ditching qwerty might get you that 10% but at a higher cost since almost all computing is built around qwerty.

wesapien··on The unix69 keyboard layout: nerdy and nice
Just got myself a Glove80 with the linear Choc Pro Red switchtes (35gf). Glad I held off on other keyboards for this. It's so satisfying to type on. It's only been more than a couple of days and I already got the hand of it for the most part. Trying Coleman makes it even easier and I plan on being proficient on Coleman and qwerty.
wesapien··on Many people in finance, sales and management feel their jobs are pointless
I'm not having any of this. So what if other people think it's bullshit. As long as YOU don't think it's bullshit, that's all that matters and everyone can go...People will wish they have bullshit jobs when they are gone and can't provide for themselves/families.

Ivermectin had every institutional accolade that a drug could have but because authorities wanted to take power away from doctors (took away their agency) to offer off-label use they had to "nerf" it to the point of horse paste. Do a Google search for Ivermectin for before:2020 and after:2019 and you will see the narrative change.

They can create a whole new narrative around anything and you reward people with some power that would subscribe to that new story.

It's not impossible. The pandemic showed that you don't need a Hitler or Stalin figure to be ruled with an iron fist. The oligarchy could just make the pro encryption people the new ivermectin.

It's probably like Line2 and Fongo. Some SMS based 2FA get through.
wesapien··on Show HN: I built a multiplayer Gameboy
Best mode is where decision makers are given power without any accountability. We just finished "The Legend of Gain of Function" and we were all surprised to not finish the game.

I did this. Xfce and Bspwm along with Sxhkd works well.

It's productive. You did something physical while improving a situation.
wesapien··on Time to bring back asylums?
That's why for me it's not easy to forgive the people who were so righteous during the pandemic that ultimately got things wrong. They would've been happy to see people locked away for dissenting.
wesapien··on Ability to see expertise is a milestone worth aiming for (2022)
Wouldn't it be better to hire a mixture of specialists and generalists especially today when diversity should be focused in thought rather than looks. Someone not me said that specialists are a master of one and connector of none.

Because we're not that big of a market and yet politicians want to tell every one they're on the same level. Maybe it's those stupid bills that aims to protect Canadian content that relatively no one watches.
wesapien··on Learning to Touch Type Again
I can already touch type and I think a split keyboard will be a lot more beneficial for ergonomics than learning qwerty alternatives.

What's it like to be able to type in Dvorak or Coleman or any other layout? Is it like being bilingual. If I ever put the effort into learning something else, it's whenever I get a split keyboard.

wesapien··on Cool, but obscure X11 tools (2019)
Anyone here use https://github.com/google/xsecurelock?

I found it while going through reddit.com/r/unixporn and looking at other peoples tiling window manager setups.

wesapien··on It's official: Smartphones will need to have replaceable batteries by 2027
I beg to differ. I have two LG V20s and I've tried multiple batteries over the years and they all worked fine. The battery by third party vendors actually got better over time. OEM had 3200mah while you can get a 4200mah since 2020.
wesapien··on Xenia: Xbox 360 Emulator (2022)
I started playing Chrono Trigger during the pandemic and found multiple versions of it. The SNES version is still what I found most people recommend. The score/soundtrack apparently got worse as new versions were being rolled out to different platforms.
wesapien··on Xenia: Xbox 360 Emulator (2022)
I agree. Some games (GTA) are losing the original music due expires music licenses and it totally changes the character and feel of the game. Thank good for people archiving these games.
wesapien··on Microsoft wins FTC fight to buy Activision Blizzard
I think the overarching concern is giving tech giant like Microsoft a hand when it's already entrenched in consumer, enterprise and government markets.

We don't need to inflate an already bighead corporate oligarch.

Install uBlock Origin and wipe those virtues away. Use the element zapper mode to temporarily remove things. Refresh and it'll be back. Use element picker to permanently hide parts of a website.
wesapien··on I Am Leaving
I'm a Never Myspace, Snapchat, Instagram, Fediverse guy. I'm always threatening to delete my Facebook though and have parked it on disabled status for over half a decade. People get offended by me not these social medias.

I just learned early enough that I have to have internet life, professional life, social life and family life all isolated for on death other.
